Re: Which Vacuum Pump Do I Need

Almost all the "big inch aluminum engines" 665-820 I see that have a Verdi have a Star pump.

Almost everyone I've talked to say the Verdi pump is the best but still needs a Star pump.

Re: A460 bored for roller cam brgs

For a high end, high HP build I like to use the steel dual Torrington needle bearing thrust plate. For everything else the stock plate works great for me.

Re: A460 bored for roller cam brgs

I wouldn't recommend drilling anymore holes anywhere in the 460 oiling system. It just creates one more leak that you don't need. There is splash from the cylinder head oil drain backs that drain right in the dist. gear area. There is direct oil to the dist shaft from the #1 cam bearing that is bein...

Re: A460 bored for roller cam brgs

I like to groove the bore somewhat like a std cam bearing oils when using roller bearings. That hole will still be exposed but it will also oil the thrust plate and cam gear.

Re: Two carbs versus one carb.

Two carbs are always better than one. I've found this to be true on Ford's, especially 460's. A 40 year old Weiand will out run a ported Victor every day of the week provided the carb tech is equal.

Re: cam bearings break-in

I use Durabonds in all my 460 builds and never had any problems with spring pressure hurting one. Never had any cam bearing problems period. Some cam cores are a bit high on the journal. I've seen those results of people trying to force the cam in and spinning a cam bearing then claiming the 460 has...

I would use it. That is a valuable crankshaft. It should have a center counterweight. It's worth at least $300 maybe more.

New Engine builders series

Did anyone get a call from a group out of Mooresville about a new Engine Competition?

They suggested "NO RULES" only claimer with a price ceiling of $7500-$10,000?

Any manifold, sheet metal included.

If engine was claimed the owner could keep the manifold and carb/fuel injection.

Thanks for the details Randy. I can see how the Kasse and the C&C heads are for different markets. Lem makes good points as there are serious conventional heads you may consider depending on your needs. (OK, your wants...) Gary, those heads you linked to are very nice as well. I do like that re...
