Yes, they are the G1. Doing ok so far for a modest head.

Re: 401 sbc ready for the Dyno

You got a spacer under the carb? They can help drop intake vac. But at 2" it definitely wants a bigger carb. 3" collectors are a definite. Looking real good so far! I wouldn't bother dialling in that carb, go for the biggest you got & dial that in, but do collector extensions 1st, the...

Re: 401 sbc ready for the Dyno

A bit more on the Progression Ignition. On the table below there are some conspicuous 34* at 2000rpm. When warming the engine up today it was sitting steady at 2000rpm and 60kpa area. Those two squares were 25*. We added timing to just that area and watched the effect on torque real time. Went as hi...

Re: 401 sbc ready for the Dyno

Dialed it up a bit more today. So far it has seen 530ft/lb @ 4750rpm and 548hp @ 6250rpm. Only using 98 RON pump fuel and air cleaner on. Some issues to address though. Probably a no brainer but doesn’t like the 2.5” collector extensions. Will get some 3” made up. Only coil wire on hand was an oem r...

Re: Chevy 327 Tunnel Ram Idling To Fast When Started

1927ModelT probably runs off electricity and generates well constructed sentences. No human on ST would say "installed a tunnel ram on the motor".

Re: 401 sbc ready for the Dyno

Pulled the string this afternoon and all good so far. Fired up straight away. Confirmed the Progression Ignition distributor was doing what it was telling us it was doing. Done this by setting up a table as 20* locked in and set 1000rpm idle at 20* on the balancer. Reduced to 15* on timing table app...

Re: 401 sbc ready for the Dyno

Cool. There are several accounts of success stories but there's no telling how skewed those results might be. It's possible to overcome the harsh environment the electronics have to live in inside a distributor cap but it's that tech support that gives me cause to question. That said, Progressive s...

Re: 401 sbc ready for the Dyno

406.jpg Prompts me to ask what kind if crankcase ventilation do you run? Once it's street driven, will you incorporate a PCV valve? Maybe a vacuum pump? PCV with inline air/oil separator. That carb is a Race Demon with no vacuum provisions. Two other carbs are Mighty Demon and they will have the pc...

Re: 401 sbc ready for the Dyno

HQ Are you a fan of the extreme filter lids ?? There was quite a bit of talk going around a while ago with the general opinion being they disturbed the air going into the carb . Most lost considerable power with the extreme top . Are you going to take a traditional “ solid “ lid with you for the te...

So now it's a soap opera.
And YouTube content very high on the priority list. Would appeal to those that had their glory days 40 years ago.

Re: 401 sbc ready for the Dyno

With that camshaft and the 11.5 compression if you had opted for a pair of AFR 195 Eliminator CNC heads you would have easily broke the 600 hp .@ about 6600 rpm With the Twisted wedge heads you may be 520 hp/500 torque range , but time will tell. But what’s the prize for the closest estimate? and g...

Re: valve timing events??

But what happens when that pressure difference is interrupted? Doesn´t that make that intake stroke loose a lot of its filling possibilities? Erland I wouldn't discount the possibility, but the timing of all aspects - valves and piston movement would be way out to sea to lose a lot of filling possi...

Re: valve timing events??

Do you mean the Inertia from the accelerated fuel and air in the runner when the piston is reversing after BDC and the inlet valve is starting to close? Erland No, not a BDC. In regard to your statement on page 2 If you look at graphs of piston velocity and intake port velocity the intake gases are...

Re: 401 sbc ready for the Dyno

It’s not so much the cfm that will be tested but trialing some emulsion and air bleed changes with each cfm for cause and effect. How does working with the emulsion affect output? I understand the air bleed side of things and tuning the A/F curve to the working target. I did that with my modified (...
