Re: Blaster Cabinet Help
I've been using this unit for almost 20 years without any issues whatsoever. http://toolsplususa.com/shop/blast-cabinets/272-professional-blast-cabinets-te48x24.html Having the front access hatch is a very convenient option. You can also load it from either side. Can I ask how loud the dust collect...

Re: 12k rpm 289 cuin
We had a healthy 289 in our dirt sportsman car in 1970. My friend Louie, who drove the car, had accidentally installed the 2-3 shift lever upside down on our 3 speed toploader. During the start of the feature he realized his mistake so he pulled back on the shifter and hit 1st instead of 2nd. Ran 25...

You can build your own from plywood...plans are online.
I have owned several from those benchtop plastic jobs to a 72" wide two man deal.
Most important is good lights, seals and available consumables.

Re: Air Cooled VW question...
Nothing wrong with my stock pushrods and they will stay put. Just wondering how you get away with zero lash on a solid lifter cam in an air cooled engine. Compare the thermal growth of the head to that of the air-cooled cylinders. The only time I ever replaced a push rod in a VW (or Porsche 356,) i...

Re: chain auto parts stores vs internet sellers
I buy local as much as I can. The Bug I just bought needed specific VW parts not available locally so I ordered from CA. Then I remembered MOFOCO VW, who is 100 miles away, stocks most of the parts I needed without an 11 day wait while FedEx lost my order. $152.00 worth. I bought plugs from my local...

Air Cooled VW question...
OK... I sorta entered the old school VW world recently after buying a '73 Beetle project for a DD for my bride. It's been 50+ years since I laid a wrench on one of these while employed as a mechanic at a few car dealerships. I have done the usual maintenance and repairs before... tuneup, brakes, etc...

How is the camshaft supply today.
I'm just wondering how the camshaft and lifter supply is doing. I know lots of parts are in short supply...I know a couple builds that are coming up will be delayed by shortages.

Re: Things that make me worry and scratch my head!
I recently read a post on another forum discussing the quality of Wal-Mart and Costco brand engine oil. One posted said he was disappointed with their oils since the bottles don't have a clear stripe on the sides that show how much is left in the bottle. His car uses 4.5 quarts of oil and with those...

Re: Late 1960s Chevrolet crate engines?
No... Remove the head bolts and the intake bolts on the side you are working on...just loosen the dizzy a bit. Then use a prybar with a nice thin face and wedge it between the head and block. Wiggle it enough to get the head off the locating pins and slide the down and away from the head. Clean up t...

Re: Late 1960s Chevrolet crate engines?
Back in '67 I was the new kid on the lube rack at Humphrey Chevrolet in Milwaukee. I did plenty of warranty work after I earned the service managers confidence. I learned how to replace a small block head gasket without removing the head. My Dad's 396 Chevelle spun a rod bearing and we installed a w...
