Re: Cam events...seat vs .050 confusion

Thanks Mike.

I wonder if the strange seat timing numbers was done on purpose, since this is a "emissions legal" cam

Cam events...seat vs .050 confusion

Hydraulic roller, seat events @.006 valve lift are: intake 28-74, exhaust is 68-34. .050 events are 0-40, 40-0. Seat events show 110 lsa, 113 ica (3* retarded). .050 shows 110/110 (0* advance). I know you normally use .050 events when degreeing the cam, and something like this I would typically inst...

Re: Speed master fuel pump?

Per speed master, it is NPT. Problem is, neither straight nor NPT fittings will thread in further than about 2 turns. Upon closer inspection under better lighting it looks like the chrome plating extends well into the threads on both the inlet and outlet. Ugh...

Speed master fuel pump?

I bought this speed master mechanical fuel pump several years ago when nothing else was in stock anywhere. Has anyone ever run one, and how did it work out for you? I absolutely hate the idea of using their parts, but at the time there just wasn't any other options...and I ended up using an old used...

Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifters

Do street or mild race solid flat tappets have a better chance of survival than a street or mild race hydraulic flat tappet? You rarely if ever hear about sft's going flat, but I do understand that sft's are usually a very small percentage of flat tappet cams sold. Also...do the EDM solids typically...

Re: Electric fuel pumps... pressure vs volume

I meant to say 25gph and 40gph for the TBI and vortec pumps, respectively.

It is more clear, and I figured out where my mistaken thinking was. Sometimes I just need to be prodded in the right direction to get the brain working

Re: Electric fuel pumps... pressure vs volume

I know that each pump has its own pressure/volume curve, but finding this info is almost impossible. Iirc, the TBI pump is rated at 25 gpm@12 psi, while the vortec pump is 40-41 gpm@62 psi. I just installed a Delphi FE0114 pump at the chip guys recommendation, and got a chip and an 18 psi regulator ...

Electric fuel pumps... pressure vs volume

On electric fuel pumps...is fuel volume inversely proportional to fuel pressure? IOW does the volume go up as the system pressure goes down using the same pump? I'm working with a chip burner on my son's pickup, and his first suggestion was to replace the stock TBI pump with one for a vortec 350 pow...

Re: Found something in the fuel tank...

Except for the clear pieces, this stuff is hard and crystalline, like clumps of sugar or salt that moisture has gotten to. The clear pieces are hard too.

Found something in the fuel tank...

IMG_20231104_150634_880.jpg My first thought was sugar and broken glass, but I've got this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that this may be something else. I should have put something in the pic for size perspective but didn't think about it at the time. The bigger pieces would have been almo...

Re: 1994 350 TBI questions

I've done a heap of tuning on the 93-95 tbi pcm's. Send me a pm if you need any help with it. Thanks for the offer. We'll see how this goes. I've been working with Brian Harris from TBI Chips. We are addressing the fuel system right now...higher volume fuel pump and an 18 psi fuel pressure regulato...

Re: Damage from running excessively lean?

Those deep scratches do start above the top ring in several cylinders. Makes no sense to me, unless something got trapped in the top crevice. Excessive piston rock maybe adding to this mystery? The plugs I pulled out of this thing did not show signs of detonation. However...they weren't the right pl...

Re: Damage from running excessively lean?

I believe they are Icon pistons, at least that is what it looks like to me. No idea on the history...I was fixing a completely different issue when I found this. It is a standard bore and I think it will clean up, but it may take a .060 overbore to get there. The guy who supposedly built the engine ...

Damage from running excessively lean?

What kind of damage do you typically see in a engine with forged pistons that has been run with an inadequate fuel supply? My experience with this is usually cast pistons missing pieces, piston tops with a very rough texture, and valves being rough or discolored. These are forged pistons in this sit...

Re: 1994 350 TBI questions

I did find the connector for the O2 sensor and got it plugged in. Buttoned up a few loose ends and took it for a drive last night. It acts like it has a bad TPS. Idles fine, cruises great IF you can find the sweet spot. Light (or more) throttle transitions though are bad...stumbles and sometimes pop...
