170, 180, 195cc?
Just recently acquired/saved a 1991 s10 from a guy who owned a salvage yard. Clean title but had been sitting in a field for about 10 years. Needed quite a bit to get it road worthy. I got the truck for essentially nothing and now it’s road worthy, inspected and registered (first time in 12 years.) ...

Re: Methanol storing
You can get those 5 gal pails at a body shop. Empty Laquer thinner or paint reducer pails. Fine for your purpose. Just keep the lid on. Methanol is fairly safe to store. No need to mix it all up at once. The water to methanol mix ratio varies on the various blue "winter formula" windshiel...

Re: Methanol storing
I would avoid storing it in plastic jugs. Over time they will degrade and become brittle. Not the best option. I would look into getting a barrel from a racer that runs methanol and buys it by the barrel. Renegade and VP are two that come to mind. The barrels are lined and won't rust. I store mine ...

Methanol storing
I recently installed a meth injection set up on my truck. Works great. I got a buddy who is a dirt track racer who runs straight methanol in his cars. He is willing to sell me 5 gallons at a time out of his 55 gallon drum. I would just order a 55 gallon drum but it would take me a very long time to ...

Re: Ring gap suggestions
I did check the old rings. I believe the previous owner just purchased some rings that were the “prefit” type. It was an NA motor but the ring gap on both was .025 maybe closer to .026. According to JE’s website they recommend for a moderate boost street engine to gap the top ring .0050 x cylinder b...

Ring gap suggestions
Too many mixed opinions when trying to Google and look up on forums. Forged pistons in a 383 small block with a Weiand 177. Just had the assembly balanced and crank polished. Probably gunna run 6-8psi of boost. Pistons measure right at 4.037 where JE suggests measuring the skirt. All the cylinders m...

Re: Mahle bearings...run em’?
So I did find the part number on the crankshaft. It is a crankshaft with a larger .125" fillet radius and it does require the narrow bearings.
Thank y'all so much for the continuted help! I'm still learning a thing or two!

Re: Mahle bearings...run em’?
Narrow bearings are typically needed with after market cranks that use large rod journal fillets to prevent the bearing contacting the fillet. Stock cranks generally do not need narrowed bearings. Narrowed bearings CAN be used with either stock or large fillet cranks. Thank you for the clarificatio...

Re: Mahle bearings...run em’?
5140 I beam rods If you have steel rods why did you get the bearings with the dowel pin hole in them ?? Should be CB663HN What number did you get ? I listened to some folks online that sound like they gave me some info. Now that I’m paying attention. I see what you mean. Those bearings are made for...

Re: Mahle bearings...run em’?
The "color" is pretty normal on the "H" bearings but the scratches are not. Almost looks like somebody had them in a rod and was checking clearance with a bore gauge of some type ? Do the scratched bearings look like they have been installed in a rod before ? What do the backs l...

Re: Mahle bearings...run em’?
Doing some searching online, it looks like Mahle’s H series bearings just look like this. At least based off a lot of the photos I see online. Maybe I’ll call Mahle in the morning and see what they say.
Any info on the cylinder wall finished with those type of piston rings?

Re: Mahle bearings...run em’?
How well were they packaged/sealed? I've gotten returned used or swapped parts before, guess not all places inspect before putting stuff back on the shelf. Most were packed like they were new. Not hard to replicate though. One or two had fallen out of their small box. Each set was individually boxe...

Mahle bearings...run em’?
These are some mahle bearings I just got in from Summit. Some are different colors, some are scratched and some just look off. I don’t have a ton of experience with different rod bearings but these look weird to me. Run them? Also, the pistons I ordered have a top compression ring made of carbon ste...

Re: 383 tapping noise
What did the rest of the skirt & opposite side look like?? I shook rod & piston lots a times on Briggs&Stratton stuff, low weight/less inertia with a full skirt that was almost as thick as yours probably saved me. I don't think anyone thinks it was a too tight or too loose clearance pro...
