Re: How good were caddy 500's really?

These engines were made so caddy could boast cubes in that era. It would be ok for me as I understand their limitations but caddys were a highway barge and I don't even recall seeing any towing. Light duty engine.

Re: How good were caddy 500's really?

Although this conversion apparently works- I just don't understand the effort. I view the Caddy as a torque monster but operating reliably only at lower rpm's. I guess anything could be made to work- how much do you want to spend. I would go BBC- pick any alum head that suites obsolete or not for we...

Most companies will tel you that there is no need but, I re-torque them anyway.

does this go for any HG type/composition in any high performance deal?
Well- that is how I found a problem......

Is SS particularly hard? I know it's tough. I only know for a long happy life- you need a hard and softer metal, not hard/hard or soft/soft.

Re: Comp Cams DLC Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifters

Why would anyone buy a cheap Chinese lifter that had a high failure rate, just because they put a cheap coating on the face of the lifters? It's still cheap Chinese iron, and it's still cheap Chinese machining. It's like playing Russian Roulette with 3 empty chambers, instead of just 2. I guess the...

Re: 355 or 383 SBC - need advice

Once upon a time- I had the same choice, I decided to go with a 355cid...worked OK, had an opportunity to revisit that decision later and corrected it with a crank and pistons- better choice that time.

Pontiac had a long line of engines in those decades- why go Olds? Which engine had more potential?

Re: Loud Exhaust

Mine is just plain oversized- which takes out a few mufflers I would have tried. Talk to Mufflerman on YB he was helpful to me. Also if you are not hung up on name, look at Jones exhaust they have some decent mufflers (magnaflow copies) I welded two 3in cases together for a turbo 4cyl application th...
