Re: performer or rpm intake choice on this cam please

RPM Performer all the way. In my testing back in the 90's when the RPM came out it was 3 tenths quicker and 2 mph faster then a Performer 2.0 that had the port opening matched to a 781 BBC head.

With that statement, it still makes me wonder how in the sq. port intake works so well on an oval port head if that's the case.

Re: 409+ head for BBCs

Wouldn't it just be cheaper to make some 409 valve cover adapter plates to make a look-a-like 409 engine. Hell the LS crowd does this all the time as those engines valve covers are pretty fugly

Re: Intake Manifold Porting Show ‘n Tell

HMQ, I've run 1206 port matched intakes on 1205 head openings, car never suffered any performance loss at the track. My Vortec 406 heads have the same opening as the factory made them, and I plopped my 1206 S/V (because Edelbrock can't make sheet right) the car still ran 10.90's that night and the s...

Re: HEADBYTES

Headbytes ranks right up there with the "premier head porter" here in MN (which will remain un-named) that I dropped $1700 on a set of Bowtie heads that I had done. They were awful when I tested them on my car. Picked up .003 at the track no matter how I tuned the car, when he promised his...

Re: Mexican Vortec heads?

Every Mexican Vortec head I've flowed make less then the original factory heads. Can they work? yes but the older heads work better with less work, if you can find some good ones.

Re: Why 4 degrees?

In the old days when I used to run Comp cam stuff all the time, I would retard the cam timing 4° to get the cam closer to straight up when I would degree it in the engine. Did it work better? most of the time not on N/A engines but when running nitrous those cams retarded made way better top end pow...

1980 RS. Do you have a thread on your L29? I have two of these engines and have not been able to find much on these except from Richard H. Charlie, I enjoy your videos on the heads. Keep up the good work! I am really curious what the 193s are capabil of with the 1.94/1.5 combo but ported. I don't t...

Re: Carbureter Return Regulator Plumbing

One day at the track my fuel pressure was dropping down to 3 psi on the big end when I was running my Comp 140 pump. Everyone said I needed to step up my fuel system, and I did a few years down the road. Turned out a I had a plugged fuel filter, it was hell trying to find one for my Russell filter a...

I've been forced against my will to reconsider the "crappy" swirl-port small-block heads. I suppose the next step is to reconsider the "crappy" L29 "Vortec" big-block heads.
LMAO, My "crappy" L-29 heads went 11.10@118mph.

Re: Carbureter Return Regulator Plumbing

I have run Holley blue pumps in the past and after a few years they all leaked. Fed up with leaks all the time I decided to run a Mallory Comp 140 and it worked well until I stepped up in the HP dept. and then the car did not have enough fuel on the big end. Next I had a friend that hadb a super ni...

Ah 1980RS. Your the guy my customer tells me about on Team Chevelle. Fast 406 with vortec heads. Thanks, that's me. I have not run that 406 in a while but if I can get some decent prices on race fuel I would run it again. Might have to run my AFR's on it so I can run it on pump gas, but then I can'...

Re: Vortecs on a 305?

All my circle track friends tried to run the Vortec 305 heads after these guys are big compression hounds, but the 906/062 Vortec heads always won out in the race until a lot of local tracks banned the Vortec heads all together. Why spend a ton of time on a 305 head when you can use the better 350 h...
