Re: Mechanical fuel pump return & fuel heat management.

Bobby, I currently have three .030" holes in the cap to vent the tank. No more air rushing out after driving when I remove the cap. My understanding is that you are having some hot start troubles and fuel pressure fluctuation concerns... probably mostly from ethanol in pump gas... but you must...

Re: 383 sbc first dyno experience

Steve, given that your current drag strip performance is about the same with this years combo vs last years smaller iron head combo, how different are the street manners and overall behavior of the two engine combinations? Exactly the same in all aspects, going back to our 98 pump gas had to take a...

Re: Dykem and a Flow Bench

That dykem can take it's toll on the plastic bore adapters. :) Whouldn’t it be the bore adapter we analyze as much as the head? Minimal dykem on bore adapter (cylinder) or an even coverage is the goal. At least not biased dykem coverage in one area. I sure think so. Thanks…do you have any pictures ...

Re: Dykem and a Flow Bench

Oh man .... The other thread was just getting good. Yes, but it no longer had anything to do with the OP's original question. Wouldn't redirecting it be more beneficial to the OP than locking it and shutting down all discussion? Sorry, I guess my question derailed the other thread. Thanks for start...

Guys its not magic, flow wand and dykem is.

Describe how you have used dykem to improve a head please.

Re: oil in water and water in oil

The oil is not a milkshake. There was a couple of small milkshakey strings in the oil I drained and the little water balls in the bottom of the drain pan. Honestly, some water got into the block when I took the old heads off. I drained the cooling system, but there was some coolant in the heads sti...

Re: oil in water and water in oil

Obviously the intake leaking can put water in the oil like you said. The other way around is a stretch but I suppose it could happen. I remember years ago there was a stock engine that had an issue with the aluminum OHC head cracking in the camshaft bore and when the engine would cool off the vacuu...

Re: MCSA questions

I agree the extra CSA and plenum in a single plane manifold would probably help. Got a couple of calculations I like to use as a starting point, they are not set in stone . MCSA - Bore x bore x stroke x rpm x 0.00353 ( constant)= # ÷ 690 ( fps)= mcsa. 4.03 x 4.03 x 3.75 x 6600 x 0.00353 = 1418. 141...

Re: Roller cam recommendation for a 289 with ported heads

Have been reading for a couple of weeks and learning as much as possible about camshafts and proper sizing. Looking for a camshaft recommendation for a warmed over 289. This is for a 68 Bronco project so low end torque is preferred. Is this a scenario where a custom grind camshaft is recommended? M...

Re: Head Porting for Fuel Milage

Currently rebuilding a 2.8 ford V6 for an 83 ranger 4x4 truck with 4 speed manual transmission. What modifications to the heads will help with fuel milage and low speed torque? I am not concerned with peak horsepower. I expect to have Mike regrind a cam. I have access to a flowbench. One thing I ha...

Re: Head Porting for Fuel Milage

Has anyone ever increased air inlet via cam and head flow and used less fuel? Long duration late closing inlet valve reduces pumping loss (throttled operation, increased flow not utilised) at cruise etc, so better economy, then helps cylinder fill at high engine speeds, power. Of course if you were...

What valve job angles are best for low speed torque and fuel milage, given a almost verticle valve in a shallow bathtub chamber with 45 degree seats?

Re: Quick fuel, holley choke

Having some trouble with an electric choke. When I set it to start in 40 degrees weather works fine. When I stop for more that 5minutes the choke closes up and the truck has to crank a lot to start. This is on an rpm air gap manifold with a 1 inch plastic spacer. I think the carb is cooling off to ...
