Re: Got my 306 on the engine dyno today

Yeah I'll be there in March for the "Meet " with the white 56' Tbird. Just waiting for Todds knee to heel. https://youtu.be/aLo1WbInaEI Very cool. Maybe we will bump into eachother there at some point. Just got the clutch sent out today for a rebuild. Have about everything I need to redo ...

Re: cast iron porting burrs?

Save yourself some money and go to the dreaded Facebook and contact “Killer Carbide Burrs”. His name is Greg. He makes the very BEST burrs you can buy at competitive prices. I never recommend what size or shape to buy because you can look at 10 head porters and you will find that they have some burr...

Re: Prove it to me....Camshaft Gear Drive is a HP Killer

27 year old paper, but puts some data to all this and much better than anecdotal information: Camshaft Timing Drive Analysis for a Winston Cup Race Engine One of the major objectives in automotive engine design is to efficiently and reliably transfer power throughout the engine. This study's object...

Re: break in opinions and procedures

Use a dedicated break-in oil. A 30 grade break-in oil is all you need... After that, I start loading it as much as I can or tuning will allow. You never want to baby the engine. The worst thing you can do to a new engine is let it idle. You want heat and load on the rings to make them seat and seal...

Re: Got my 306 on the engine dyno today

Why the anger? I guess I should have stated the obvious that Tuner more eloquently covered. You did a good job covering most of it as well. However, claiming a VR or Unilite or Hall is equal is a farce. Everything around it has its own skew as well. You do know I used to work for Mallory Ignition a...

Let me do some simple math. It’s 2023. That thread was 2009. That’s 14 (FOURTEEN) years and some people still won’t learn the facts even if you give it to them for FREE.

Unreal…

Re: Got my 306 on the engine dyno today

Hiya, A small amount of mis-direction in this thread and I don't want to derail Nate's build. It isn't the boxes that have retard, it is inherent of the magnetic reluctor. Some boxes try to correct for it is all. Change the gap on the reluctor while on a machine and see. MSD knew this with their &q...

Re: Got my 306 on the engine dyno today

Timing curve is something I will have to look into. I’ve had this distributor (different distributor gears) since the late 90’s. Things have changed in 25 years. To answer Tuner and clear things up a bit a wacky curve is pretty much anything an engine does NOT want. That includes locking them out a...

Re: Got my 306 on the engine dyno today

Tuner, how do you feel about E85 on this? That was my idea when I first started this project. Then the one local station not far from me stopped carrying it. Got the idea I could run on 91. Toby has always encouraged putting it on e85. Pump gas and 11:1 is a no brained. But you probably can’t lock ...

Re: Got my 306 on the engine dyno today

We did not. If I had a belt drive it would have been tempting. When you moved the ignition timing, what is the least advance you tried? Did you do any testing starting at a lower RPM? We started at 26. It didn’t like 28. You could hear it wasn’t happy on that pull and lost some power. Went to 24 an...

Torco has break in oil and you can buy it through Summit. I’ve used BP and Lucas but I prefer Torco over both of those.
