I seem to have missed all that info from a year or so ago but in re-reading it now it sure looks like SDCE got thrown under the bus for not following the herd and using what "everyone else does". I had heard about RW TECH's testing a couple years ago and it seemed SDCE was coming to the sa...

I've been running Electromotive's ignition system for a few years now and though I had big doubts whether it was as powerful as they claim it does seem to light whatever i can throw at it. I know they also say you should run higher resistance wires which seems counterintuitive. I usually run MSD Sup...

Just some random thoughts that might (or might not) help - I only use Hard Block so these are brand specific: Hard Block claims to match expansion characteristics of cast iron well as it has a bunch of iron filings mixed in, would this preclude using it for aluminum? It's also relatively porous, I'v...

I've been doing this on my 2.3 Fords for years on methanol, not sure about E85 though. If you try this try to monitor your oil temp. Even on an extended street cruise I can't get my oil temp much over 100 degrees. I'm wondering if when not under power a lot of the oil temp comes from the oil splashi...

Re: Inherant critical crankshaft harmonics

Is there any way (shadetree method) to determine just where in the rpm range bad harmonics are likely to occur? How much do the crankshaft counterweights affect it if at all?

If that's the same "gold" or "vane pump" that Ron's has been selling for years I won't say it won't work as I've seen them on quite a few motors but I would worry about actual output and longevity. The "gold" pumps (makes them sound more racey) are made by Procon and ar...

Mine is 3.81" bore with 40psi exh. pressure... Which just happens to be a 1:1 TIP ratio. I've been doing a lot of thinking about it and it still seems to me that if there is indeed a given amount of pressure in the exhaust system it will be the lowest pressure seen by the piston anywhere...

True but I always go to neutral at the end of a run and try not to spend any more time than I have to at high rpm/no load. I'm just curious as to how much the cushioning effect is helping. My motor seems to make decent power with really junk internals and no breakage, I figured the backpressure migh...

Effect of turbine pressure on rod tensile loads?

I'm having a hard time getting an answer to this.... If you assume that most tensile loading of a connecting rod is at the top of the exhaust stroke on an NA engine, is there a way to factor in how much that load is reduced due to turbine inlet pressure on a turbocharged engine? I thought it might h...

.580" lift is just what I have to work with. I've run the same cam and alu. head for 10 yrs. now, just can't afford to buy a new one. The chambers are different- the iron head is the old 2.3 Pinto while the alu. head has a more modern figure 8 (Yates?) design. AFAIK though there is not a huge d...

I've got a question - considering boost is only backpressure, does this mean that there is more effective flow across the valve seat area on a blown application than a typical flow bench would indicate? The way I see it, if the higher pressure areas like the plenum just have higher pressure but not ...

Afret - that looks like the same amount of tube visible in this one. I was surprised with as tight of a press as it had the steel sleeve leaked.

Actually JB Weld is the one I've had the least amount of luck with on aluminum.

Where do you get Primer T or what else would work to prep the alu.?

That's the thing - which type? I've tried a lot of different adhesives over the years and not all seemed to work well with alu. Just wondered what has worked well for others.

Best aluminum bonding agent?

I'm working on a Ford FE intake manifold for a friend. He ported through a pushrod hole so I thought no problem, I'll just bore it out and press in a split steel sleeve. Well it leaked (sucking oil under vacuum) just as bad. Spraying brake cleaner showed it was leaking right around the sleeve. The s...
