Re: Why does GM spec such low idle timing advance?

Idle timing is related to cam overlap & to a lesser extent, comp ratio. More overlap, more timing reqd. Lower CR, also more timing reqd. Hence late model low compression engines had more initial timing generally. Both overlap & CR are related to the reqd burn time for most efficient combust...

Re: placement of fuel return line into tank

I think the return line should return to the top of the tank, in free air space if possible. If the return line goes to the bottom of the tank, the pump is pumping return fuel with the head of fuel above it in the tank, making the pump work harder. Also, if the return line goes to the bottom of the ...

Re: 318" poli build.

The Chrysler Poly 313-318 engines were great engines. They felt more like 418 cubes than 318. My 1960 Dodge Phoenix with a Poly 318 could easily beat my mate's 390 Galaxie, both cars similar weight.

Re: Steel Distributor gear on Steel Roller Cam?

Well it seems Crane has contradicted it's own info because the latest Crane dists have steel gears [ not cast iron ] which Crane claims work with ALL cams, which by definition would include 8620 steel core cams. Also, Lunati sell the 'Everwear' dist gear, melonized steel, that they claim is compatib...

Re: Howards Cam Fast Hyd Flat profile???

Casper,
Unless I read it wrong, you said in one of your posts on page 1 that in a phone call with Howards, they recommended 120lb seat, not 105.

Re: Howards Cam Fast Hyd Flat profile???

While I agree that Beehive springs, because of the reduction in sprung rate & changes in natural frequency, can be lower tension than conventional parallel springs, this cam you are using seems to be almost unique in it's aggressiveness. And, you are using the higher ratio 1.7 rockers. Both of t...

Re: Howards Cam Fast Hyd Flat profile???

You should have left the 1219 springs in! The new 1215 springs are down 30 #s on seat pressure [ piddling 105#s ] & down more 50 lbs/in in rate. The cam you are using has a very aggressive rate of lift, close to maxxed out for a 0.874"lifter, & will will need plenty of spring to control...

Re: Water meth injection

Joe 90, Did you forget your medication? Nowhere did I say a carb worked at 100 PSI. In fact, I didn't mention 100 psi anywhere . And I didn't fit the small tank that came with the kit, the optional larger tank was fitted which is plenty big enough for the 7.5L engine. And to claim that to make your ...

Re: Water meth injection

The Snow kit I mentioned in post #3 came with a selection of nozzle sizes for different engines. The nozzle mounts in spacer supplied with the kit but, I didn't use the spacer because the owner had a Victor intake & hood clearance was tight; also, I didn't like the idea of a single nozzle for di...

Re: Water meth injection

Yes, It works.......sort of. Fitted the Snow Performance muscle car kit to a 455 Pontiac, 11.3:1 CR, street registered & driven. The controller was erratic & the mob we bought it from [ Albury, NSW ] wanted my mate to remove the WHOLE system & return it for 'testing'. Yeah, right. I fitt...

The internal valve in the affected lifters may be leaking, or could have debris trapped.

'The heat is gone'.....So it must be cold then. And 1/4" thick cast iron can be cold one side, hot on the other side.

Re: Running a half-filled block long distances at cruise rpm

John, Even if the lower part of the block that was filled with HB ran cooler, that still leaves less coolant to carry away the heat in the hottest part of the engine. It would seem to me a no brainer that under this scenario, the coolant leaving the block en route for the radiator will be hotter...t...

Re: Howards Cam Fast Hyd Flat profile???

This is a FT cam, not a roller, correct? Because this cam has much more lobe lift compared to cams from other companies. Crane has a series for the 0.904" Mopar lifter, which has more lift than the smaller Chev/Ford lifters. Their aggressive H3 series does not have a 224 @ 050 , but factoring i...

Put your fingers on the bottom of the block after the engine has run for 30 minutes. Count how many seconds it takes to burn your fingers.....
