Fresh Engine: Engine Stand Compression Test Question

Fresh shortblock with: Everything new with the exception of the original crankshaft. Wiseco forged pistons, (1/16th, 1/16th, 3/16ths ring pack), new hydraulic cam and lifters. Zero runtime. Heads are several thousand miles old. Guides are within spec although I have my suspicions about the state of ...

PipeMax/Collector Length/Cut Outs Question

Track days (dragstrip) will see open headers with a PipeMax specified collector length. In this case, PM version 3.6xp2 suggests 17.9" long for the best torque curve (highly recommended). Easily done. However... I'll be building something similar to the picture below. cut outs.jpg The following...

Re: the DV Live Now post

What's kind of interesting in this latest EMC and EMC rebuttal is that if I understand it correctly, the 128 "formula" came about from innumerable dyno tests. That is, for a "given combination", (and we've seen that combination is very specific in the grand scheme of things), gre...

Re: profiler tunnel ram

Dang!
Awesome hobby at times isn't it?
I had an engine failure a few years back. A little thing that led to destruction (or very nearly so). I've been in the planning/rebuilding phase ever since. But the end is in sight. Here's hoping you can get back at it sooner rather than later.

Re: profiler tunnel ram

Seeing as you're OK, I suppose it's alright to ask if the drivetrain took a hit too. I've broken a transmission case and bent a rear axle with a similar impact. Although rather than a guardrail it was a hillside adjacent to the road when I spun around on poor tires in the rain. Crunched my 68 Chevel...

don't know how to post a video. Don't want to put it on yuotube. You should be able to upload it from a saved file on your computer provided it's the correct format and no larger than 10 MB. From the FAQs page: [ i]What attachments are allowed on this board? Each board administrator can allow or di...

Even though I didn't ask the question, the reply is exactly the kind of information I'm researching.
Thanks as always. I've got 5 quarts of PennGrade SAE 30 on order.

Driven BR is highly rated. Flat tappets or otherwise.
Do you have a specific weight that you prefer? Seems SAE 30 is also recommended.

Re: Somebody has to be wrong

Are we discussing a break-in specific oil or engine oil in general with regards to full synthetic vs conventional? The break-in procedure thread has a ton of info on both fronts but the insights into what a break-in oil is and what it should provide was, to me, the real eye opener. Between RDY4WAR a...

Re: Break-In Oil (Continued)

On the one hand advice has been the same for 50 years; for break-in use a low detergent oil one step thinner than you will run later. On the other hand oil technology improves all the time, and, reducing friction and reducing wear can be opposite objectives, not to mention the break-in procedure, s...

Re: Who here actually drives an EV/HYBRID?

Oh and it seems that the green church absolutely hates it when I have used the argument about how badly the grid is equiped to handle the electricity needed. I guess nobody likes it when their bubble gets busted. Although I'm loathe to get involved in a politically charged discussion, that little t...

Re: Break-In Oil (Continued)

PennGrade has been mentioned more than once.
It looks to be that Summit will ship it internationally (which is a bit of a surprise).
Might be that it ends up on the next order.

Re: Break-In Oil (Continued)

Driven BR would be my choice out of those. Lucas and RP are good too, you wouldn't be wrong in choosing one of them, but I personally don't do business with them for ethical reasons. Amsoil's break-in oil is also one to consider, as well as Penngrade's and HPL's. HPL dialed theirs in for breaking i...
