Re: Marine - Engine burping and farting

Issues like that in half an hour... make sure the fuel tank can breathe.

Re: Eagle connecting rod burnt cap

Most of us don't mind this discoloration in the small end when the pin isn't floating.
I would not sell an engine with a cap like that, but I might run one for my self.. might.

Re: is Valovoline VR-1 really hurting engines?

Not related to the VR-1 specifically,
But the LS boys are many and all around, and the LS running stock lifters, doesn’t seem to like any weight oil above zero weight.
I had a guy recently going bananas over lifter ticking that was cured by going from VR-1 10w60 to thinner oil.

Re: BBC Rear Main bearing damage mystery.

Where does the engine get the oil pressure from the dry sump pump?
Any chance the oil is directed in such a way that it streams past the rear main passage, or the plumbing fitting is partly covering the passage?

Re: The Top End Retard

Hasn't our vacuum advance sorta been doing this, just not all of the time? ;) Yeah, but no, but yeah, but… Thats kindof instant, and backwards. This is about being closer the timing threshold as the chamber conditions progressively become worse. The chamber gets more timing sensitive with load x ti...

Re: The Top End Retard

That's the thing I don't get, that there could be gains in high RPM retard. Using a switch in the line pressure is brilliant! You are saving the engine from fighting it self from too much timing when the load is excessive regardless of rpm.. because the chamber heat is excessive... that where the po...

Re: The Top End Retard

I would assume it has a lot to due with the different acceleration rates the engine sees in different gears Interesting. So if we exaggerate that scenario and lug the engine down to steady state zero acceleration, it will want less timing? Is this simply a matter of combustion heat in the cylinder ...

Re: Manually advancing timing

You might need someone like Danny Carey to drive a racecar with a manual ignition control. I for one would not have the motor skills to do it in real time. I have ridden old British motorcycles that had a lever for ignition timing. I believe it's purpose was to adjust to the differences in fuel qual...

The Top End Retard

No not that one... The stuff dreams are made of, that extra boost you have been looking for at the top end, the infamous mph adder.. Retarding ignition timing at the top end!! I've read about this, never seen it done, never heard about it being done. I've seen it advertised as a feature in ignition ...

Re: Isomoto 125

No idea what engine this is, is it from a pit bike? Most are Honda replicas. The kickstart engines have a different thread for the flywheel than the electric start ones.

There are cases with a set of ten pullers on amazon for less than 40 bucks.

Re: How Much Fuel Range Is Really Necessary For A Racing Machine?

Being gravity fed to the carb, the methanol will also pull air in to the tank at 1.8 times the rate. Vent accordingly.

Re: Billet Block internal heater - worth it?

I'd guess it has dry sump being a billet block. Just run a heater element in the tank.
That will also extend oil life as you can boil some of the alky out of the oil, outside of the engine.

Just for shits and giggles...
What are the numbers for the Kawasaki, all else being equal, but the rod ratio at 1.55?
