Re: Narrowing rods?

If it's a inline BMW, you should cut 1/2 the needed material, from each side and recut the chamfer. Chamfer needs to be larger than the fillet radius and can extend, if necessary, to near the edge of the insert. On a V engine, I narrow the the side that fillet is on and re-chamfer. If there are no b...

Re: Most aerodynamic Muscle Cars?

One of the best Mussel Car size cars, is the '94 - 97 Tbird. Very slippery cars!

Another Ford that will supprise you, is the 1960 Ford Starliner. Karol Miller did 157.9 at Bonneville, in 1960. Engine was his version of the 360hp 352, bore .090 and a 600 cfm Holley.

He drove it both ways from TX.

Re: Road Race Build .. input required

I think you have enough head flow for now and reliable rods and rockers, hopefully at least 1.6 RR. I'd go with the 3.75 crank and a HFT or Tight Lash SFT, ~240 @.050, 108/104 cam to get where you want but, I'd use 6.0" rods, for a road racer. 14/15cc dish pistons (10.3 CR pump gas), depending ...

Re: 430 Lincoln Engines

When I was in HS (Class of '62) only girls took typing. LOL :)

Got my first computer, in '94 and still type, using only my index finger.

Re: 430 Lincoln Engines

I never got to hot rod my 410 MEL (Edsel). I had wanted to put it in my '60 Ford Galaxie but, the motor mounts were completely different so, I bought a 300 hp, 352 instead but, used the MEL, large case FX trans, behind it. I had planned to install it in a '30 something, Ford and bought a 6 x 2 intak...

Re: LS Valve weight VS spring pressure

There is a formula for determining how the cam side weight relates to the valve side weight:

Cam side valve train weight = 1divided by Rocker ratio ², i.e. 1÷1.76² = .3223 or 1÷1.60² = .39

Re: 368 Lincoln Y Block

Wow, that's quite a bore increase! How did you get the nerve to go that big? Being a old guy, I know that most of the early engines were bored 1/8" but, the only early engine that I had heard being bored 1/4" was the flathead. Since Hilborn recommended using the Olds FI intake on the Linc,...

Re: 368 Lincoln Y Block

Thank you, Royce. I have the magazine with the results for that EMC challenge. Can you tell us the valves used and flow that Joe got out of those heads? I'm disappointed to hear that the stroke is limited to 4.1. I had always though that the deck height and it's stroke potential was thee advantage t...

Re: 368 Lincoln Y Block

Ted Eaton would be another good source. I don't know if he has ever been on here though. Now a days, not many want to work with them, because parts are so scarce. With the 10.94 deck ht, I've always wondered, just how long a stroke you could get. The FE can do 4.375. If there is enough cam/crank CL ...

Re: 368 Lincoln Y Block

I have a old Hilborn catalog, from about '73. In it, it says that you can use the Olds injection manifold for the Lincoln. The Olds has 4.625 bore centers.

How did it do at Bonneville?

368 Lincoln Y Block

I always liked this engine and saw a '56 Ford in Long Beach, CA, beat some impressive cars, back in the mid '60's. I've been involved with FE's since the '60's but, never got to build one of these. They have the same bore centers as the FE but, a 10.94 deck ht and are a little heavy. Has anyone buil...
