Re: Crosskart Xtreme best center of gravity height?

Sorry, my semantics ........ 'almost impossible' equals ' can be very difficult' I flicked through the rules you posted and am still at a bit of a loss as to what suspension you're actually running If it's no great secret what is the type of rear suspension you have ....... IRS double A arm / multi ...

Re: Metal clad valve seal removal

I'm almost glad people are having as much trouble as I sometimes do getting them off, lol ...... thought it was just me The only ones that give any real problems are, as said, 'cam on bucket', everything else comes off usually with a couple of small pry bars, ultimately For the CoB I use a pair of g...

Re: Crosskart Xtreme best center of gravity height?

Also, roll stiffness and roll center are two distinct properties and are not so much coupled. I don't agree, unless I'm reading that wrong, or it's an emphasis thing ...... in any case I'm not trying to provoke an argument, just clarity All things being equal roll stiffness related to roll centre (...

Re: Crosskart Xtreme best center of gravity height?

I think that the track cars that lift the front wheel when cornering on track likely have the front roll center higher than rear roll center. All those cool photos with the inside front wheel in the air… When a vehicle lifts the inside front wheel when cornering, 100% of the lateral weight transfer...

Re: Crosskart Xtreme best center of gravity height?

I think that the track cars that lift the front wheel when cornering on track likely have the front roll center higher than rear roll center. All those cool photos with the inside front wheel in the air… No ..... it's not directly a result of front RC height When a vehicle lifts the inside front wh...

Re: Crosskart Xtreme best center of gravity height?

In the vast majority of cases the rear roll centre is higher than the front, in both FWD and RWD vehicles Very rarely is it the other way round, IIRC mostly rear engined I've come across various reasons why this would be so, but 'feel' near the limit is generally more natural for the driver when set...

Re: Crosskart Xtreme best center of gravity height?

You need ground clearance, you need suspension travel, the buggy has been built with arm angles to suit a certain ride height. Yes ...... the whole thing has been designed at a certain ride height and arm angles, which dictate roll centres etc It's difficult to see what major improvements can be ea...

Re: Crosskart Xtreme best center of gravity height?

.....my rule of thumb is that you want the center of gravity as low as possible and about 60% weight in the rear and 40% in the front ...... Where would one want the center of gravity for a car like this? Especially in terms of height? It'll be suck it and see ........ but that wouldn't be the wors...

Re: Crank C/L to starter pinion C/L Chevy

So we need to get a hitachi style starter, remove its adapter plate, make a new adapter plate that is non-concentric between the starter pinion and the bellhousing plate bore for adjustment of the cl to cl gear engagement depth. Then mill a pocket in the bellhousing plate to set the fore/aft engage...

Re: Crank C/L to starter pinion C/L Chevy

Ok, the measurements I made regarding the C to C of the crank centerline to the pinion centerline ...... With the recommended gear root clearance of 0.035" I get the following : 153 tooth 6.783" 168 tooth 7.437" They haven't been rounded, just the averages of several readings, but I'm...

Re: Crank C/L to starter pinion C/L Chevy

Joel, sorry about the tardiness ...... time of year, thing tying up loose ends I've reverse engineered the C to C of both the 153t & 168t Chevy ring gears, but I've left my notes at work, doh ...... will post up tomorrow Not sure how much the Summit one is but something like this will get it don...

Re: Crank C/L to starter pinion C/L Chevy

I guess I ought to back up a little and mention the only caveat with choosing the base starter The system I'm describing will work easily up to a ring gear clearance dimension ...... the distance from the mounting face of the starter to the leading edge of the ring gear, of about 34mm ....... which ...

Re: Crank C/L to starter pinion C/L Chevy

This is the style of starter you need, 'Hitachi' pattern, popularised by Tilton, but there are plenty of spurious vendors these days, common SBC/BBC ...... obviously has the correct pinion too The one shown is 1.4kw, but the 2.2kw is about an inch longer and pennies more, might be better suited to y...

Re: Crank C/L to starter pinion C/L Chevy

Hi Joel That's a 'Denso' style GR starter, the type I rejected when I undertook my endeavours, not 'Hitachi' but it will work for what's needed Those two 'tiny' M6 screws will hold, the 'Hitachi' has three Give me a day or so and I'll get some measurements done and post up some detail I'd always pre...
