Re: Any QFT Q-950 experience?
dfree... For a drag car with a 5k converter... The carb doesn't need to be all that precise. Tune the idle, get it to transition, and tune the main jets by ET... and you're pretty much 'good'. Sure, there might be tiny bit more in it, but not that much. For a street car that you want to work like EF...

Re: Header paint
VHT flameproof coating works. I used to use it before getting my headers coated.
However, it took THREE cans to fully paint a set of long tube headers.
Curing is important!
Good Luck!

Re: Magnaflow Going to Crap
These are not a fluke. It seems this is how they make their offset mufflers now. Here's some other replies at another site. http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=430493 These are 2.5" instead of 3.0" as I stated in my first post. Part# 11236 And, something fun... Top Fuel, Pla...

Re: Magnaflow Going to Crap
The offset mufflers tend to fit better on most cars.. especially if they use tail pipes.dfree383 wrote:any reason not to use the center in and center out?
I'm not defending either product, but have you dyno'd them both on the same engine? or are you just going by appearance?

Magnaflow Going to Crap
Not necessarily Engine Tech, but related... as it definitely affects performance. Here's a couple pictures of two mufflers. Both are 3.0" with offset inlet and outlets. Guess which one is Magnaflow, and which is a Dynomax Ultraflow? Yes, the crap one with the pinched bends (both ends of the muf...

Re: Chamfering tops of bores to match chamber outline
Valve/bore clearance is the reason some of these engines that had chamfered bores from the factory. On some engines, the valve would hit the cylinder if it wasn't clearanced.
I generally chamfer the bores as well.

Re: help me build my dz302
You don't need a lot of cam duration with those small cubes... especially if you run good aftermarket heads. My car had a pump gas 306 (Ford) with a 650DP, Victor Jr, 236/248 @ 0.050" solid flat tappet cam, 289 heads I ported, 1-5/8" Hooker Super Comps, 3" exhaust, toploader 4-speed, ...

Re: aviation fuel versus sunoco 110
Gasoline is a BLEND. Some of the components of the blend evaporate very easily. (lights) Some do not. The main difference is that it has fewer of the -light- compounds that vaporize really easy. (who wants a vapor lock at 10,000ft?) But, all this does is make the engine a little harder to start in c...

Re: Super Victor vs RPM Airgap Dyno results SBC
How I see it... Dual plane intakes make the effective runner length longer. Single plane intakes make it shorter (and straighter). If the application can benefit from longer runner length, then it will often run better with a dual plane. Plus, a dual plane can often 'crutch' an engine that isn't des...

Re: Super Victor vs RPM Airgap Dyno results SBC
You guys might laugh but this is true. I went from7.38 to 7.16 going from a super jr to rpm-406 sbc 11-1 comp. shift 6200-5000k stall 411 gears-Rpm is back on to stay. That one shocked me big time. My heads only have 200 runners-205 valves but man still. How much cam with that 6200 rpm shift point ...

Re: Super Victor vs RPM Airgap Dyno results SBC
I believe the original results were very predictable. Dual plane intakes seem to get good "oh my gosh" results when swapped for a single plane that is on an engine that has too much cam and too little compression. On these engines, the dual plane can help mask an otherwise bad combination....

Have you tried removing the fan belts? That would allow you to rule in/out several factors.
