modok wrote: Thu Aug 10, 2023 3:58 pm I don't see how plugging the holes can prevent cracking unless you braze or solder or weld them in.
This is why I was asking if pictures are available. It is possible that you could do more harm than good by increasing tensile stress by plugging the holes.

Re: Best way to plug steam holes on a sbc 400?

...looking to strengthen that area... No way to strengthen what isn't there, well, if a fastener was put across it, below the deck & 90 degree to the possible crack, and that is not going to be done. IDK if threads cut off the bolt/stud or counter-boring the block down 3-5 threads will make it ...

Re: Quick Fuel Rich Idle

I also had issues with richness at off idle to cruise on a Holley 770 SA, especially coming off the throttle to idle, verified with AFR wideband. Tried MANY different combinations of IAB, IFR, TSR and Emulsion kill bleed sizes/placement, but one change that helped one place would hurt another area ...

Your clearances are really not as they should be with the result being more ware.
What temp tstat do you recommend for street/strip cars?

Check to see if the air bleeds are clogged with debris.

Re: Back Cut Valve Question

First let me say this site and the people on it are great. Very professional. Now the question: When back cutting an intake valve, as a general rule, how wide should it be? Do you: Mark where the seat makes contact and grind up to that? Do you grind up to a certain a point from it? Say .030? Do you...

Re: Nicks In New Valves

Well they came in a box with paper on the bottom the valves loose in individual bags, then more paper on top. I bet it was shipping/rough handling. I took one valve and LIGHTLY tapped it against the under head area of another and it left the exact same mark. Good new valves are packaged from the fa...

Re: M/E Wagner Dual Flow Adjustable PCV Valve

Can you guys explain what was better in your experience using the Wagner valve , was it increased idle vacuum or what? Do you have before and after results compared to a standard pcv valve. The Wagner valve is dual mode. On it you can adjust the amount of PCV flow at idle. AND yiu can adjust the am...

Re: oil in water and water in oil

I took the car for a 15 minute drive. Everything seems to be OK. It ran very well and temp and oil pressure were fine. Afterwards, the water and oil looked good. The first time I started the engine, it had a miss when cold that went away once it warmed up. I had a suspicion that with the wider plug...

Re: Dykem and a Flow Bench

Darin was previously showing burn marks and carbon deposits of a ran head, which matched almost identically to his Dykem testin on flowbench. Some think fuel washes the surfaces, when an alternative view could be that the fuel on wetted surfaces burns poorly (rich) during combustion leaving carbon ...
