Re: Musi 520 BBC runs crappy at low speeds

One could not make a bigger mistake on any motor that will spend any time on the street then not running vacuum advance if your not running fully programmable electronic timing! There’s 100% no down side to running vacuum advance and without electronic timing that’s the only way to get the much nee...

Re: Valve events what happens only one event is moved

I've built a few with 116-117. I've got some BBF pulling truck cams at 119-120. Brent, Are they all N/A, or some power adder? Stan Big power big Cubic inches NA motors can handle wide LSAs. How much of that wide LSA is related to piston to valve clearance? Screenshot 2023-07-23 111818.jpg

Re: SCAT 9000 Limits

I did a 347 bracket race engine for a customer, 540 hp, launched at 5500, shifted at 7000. Used a 9000 series Scat crank. He lost a power valve and didn't realize it, washed the cylinders down, so we had to freshen up. Found a cracked rod journal when we magged it. That was pretty lucky. Usually a ...

Re: turning engine over

You didn't say but is this an automatic or stick car? Reason I am asking is I had a truck puller destroy one of my engines on time because the inputshaft bottomed in the crankshaft. and they simply tightened the trans bolts to draw the transmission flush. They fired it and called me because of smok...

Re: Choosing Rocker Arms

I was going back and forth in my own mind as to stud size. I called AFR to inquire about exchanging my unopened package of 3/8 for 7/16. I was told for my build the 3/8 would be fine. Then I realized, I don't know yet how hard I may drive this, or how often I will drive it hard. I think about drivi...

Superflow control valve orientation

Superflow 901. The servo valve has two openings, a large one and two small slot type openings. The slot side openings are where you set the timing of the valve, but my question is which side goes up against the absorber?? The single big opening or the two smaller openings??

Birdlab wrote: Fri Jun 30, 2023 11:55 am Of course the correction factors used in dyno testing take into consideration barometric pressure, temperature and humidity, but not wildfire smoke! Do you guys think the recent smoky air conditions in the eastern US could result in a measurable reduction in power on the dyno?
Yes.

Re: break in opinions and procedures

I’m just saying look into Torco. Having had a quick look, it looks to be available in Canada but not necessarily readily available. I'll have to look into that further. I suppose their customer service would be able to provide the chemical constituents as finding this info, as I mentioned , is ofte...

That's very generous of you. Thanks. Let me know if I overstay my welcome as I'll have more than one ask I'm sure. I'm not certain how this will translate across our borders though. I've seen a few differences in branding and availability between the US and Canada. That said, the largest parts supp...

" 4 core aluminum radiators." are less efficient at cooling than 2 core or 3 core wide tube radiators. The tubes in a 4 core rad are too small. The OEM's have known this since the 1980's. I thought this was common knowledge. I run a 2 core wide tube aluminum rad on my 500 hp engine . It r...
