Re: Rocker arm to poly lock clearance

With the valve closed, the poly lock to valve side of the rocker arm has plenty of room.

Rocker arm to poly lock clearance

Hello all. I’ve been doing some preliminary mock up on a pair of SBF trick flow, twisted wedge R, heads for a drag race application. I’ve got a Bullet cam with gross valve lift of .740 on the intake and .725 on the exhaust. Bullet recommend a PAC 1225 spring. (I’ve got an appointment to see Ken at M...

Re: Recomend A SuperCharger Carburetor Builder? Buying New

I’ve had Dale Cubic do a couple carbs.
No supercharger ones, but he does high end work and has a great reputation.

Maybe, worth a phone call.

Re: Effect of multiple mufflers

No build, no particular real-world application. I'm just trying to figure out if I'm thinking about restriction and sound correctly. Like an electrical circuit, if I have two of the same mufflers in series, I expect the restriction to double. I also expect the sound to be half as loud (twice the or...

Gerstner boxes

Hello all.
I’ve got a bit of a thing for these old wooden boxes.
I just picked up a few from a coworker who was clearing out an estate. One is a fairly rare walnut example.

Re: BBC Manual fuel pumps

I’ve got a Baker mechanical on my BBC marine engine. I have it plumbed in a bypass configuration (the pump is set for 15 psi) I have a Holley HP mech pump as well. Very nice billet unit. Needs a dead head regulator (it’s set for 11psi). The baker runs 250 bucks or so The Holley is discontinued (prob...

Re: Spring locator to guide fitment

The head has a spring pocket, but it’s much larger than the OD of the springs. If that is the case why cant you use a cup type locator that locates the springs on their od ? Like this one : https://www.lunatipower.com/o-d-locator-cups-060-thickness-640-i-d-1-670-o-d-1-565-spring-o-d-set-of-16.html ...

Re: Spring locator to guide fitment

Rob, I am surprised that the guide measures .600 That is kind of an oddball size. Almost all of the ones I have seen are .625 which works good with the .635 id spring seats. Is there a spring "pocket" cut in the head that would allow you to use an od type spring seat instead ? I have had ...

Re: Spring locator to guide fitment

Ok, thanks. I didn’t know that. So, the proper way to address this is to buy locators that are smaller than the guide and open them up? Am I correct in thinking that the .035 clearance was not right and would have led to failure on an aluminum head with relatively stout springs, spinning 8000 RPM? T...

rustbucket79 wrote: Thu Nov 12, 2020 10:39 pm Why not get the .570” spring seats and bore them to the .600” on the lathe?
I figured they were hardened and would be hard or impossible to machine. Is that not correct?

Spring locator to guide fitment

Hello all. I’m working on a set of Trick Flow twisted wedge R heads for a small block ford drag race project. I had a shop put the heads together years ago and never used them. I’m changing the spring package due to the cam I’ve chosen being more radical than what I thought I was going to use. I hav...

Re: Crane Hi-6

I’m using the Daytona sensors CD-1 marine on my marine engine. It’s a nice piece. Rotary dial rev limiter, several pre set timing tables available via another rotary dial, custom tables can be loaded and selected. Start retard function, A couple inputs and outputs, etc.... We just put the automotive...

Re: Carb selection question

I guess I’ll take the weight reduction of the brawler type carb........ and save the $278 that goes along with it. Since the shift in manufacturing has moved from the zinc castings to aluminum bodies and bowls, along with billet metering blocks and baseplates....... if the quality of the zinc parts...

Re: Carb selection question

Holley sells their factory refurb 80496s for about $550 if they are still available. Just checked out of curiosity, but Holley's web site says none currently available. Too bad, cuz the "regular" price for a new 80496 is... uhhhh... pretty freakin' high, IMO. I hear ya. I checked ...
