Re: Cheap SBC aluminum heads..

You will want to deck the block a lil bit (.014ish) to get a 0 deck height Why deck the block at all? If it's only for the sake of piston to head clearance and quench, you could save the machining, add some rebuildability to the block (should it ever need to be decked and I'm assuming this one does...

Re: Cheap SBC aluminum heads..

It's the aluminum heads that won't get along with that single layer shim gasket for long that is the problem....not the fact it's a 400 block or that you have to modify the gasket... I thought people used the Flepro 1094, 0.015 coated shim gasket(4.100 bore so 350) with alum heads all time? Some do...

Re: Cheap SBC aluminum heads..

A shim headgasket will be very unreliable with aluminum heads especially on a 400 block. Not so, a .020" steel MrG or GM shim head gasket cut to fit and drilled for steam holes worked fine in my 406. But it was only like 9.5 to 1 CR. Indianhead shellac gasket cement is your friend here, imho. ...

Re: Cheap SBC aluminum heads..

I think you are refering to KB764 piston If you use KB763 piston instead you do not need to cut the heads at all. 6.3cc dome You will want to deck the block a lil bit (.014ish) to get a 0 deck height I was going to suggest the same thing. Or ICON FHR series IC9940, 2.6cc solid dome at .075" ta...

Re: Crane adjustable ratio rockers?

No one else noticed yet? Those adjustable-ratio crane aluminum roller rockers HAVE NO ROLLER TIP; have a steel slider instead. I kind of like that feature... seems like it would be lighter than a roller wheel, and less moving parts to break. Just look at the modern LS engine rocker arm....notice an...

Late 1980's to maybe 1993-94 if memory doesn't fail me., but could have been 5 years earlier than that. Obviously, they didn't catch on in the market.

Re: DNA Motoring aluminum SBC heads.

That's the better of the import head castings, known by most as the ProHeader casting. Same casting AFR is using for their new as-cast head called the "Enforcer"., they're just putting their 8mm stem valve package in it. There are some custom head porting guys on this board using it for t...

Re: BBC connecting rods

Normal for a factory balance. Actually pretty close if only 11 grams spread between the whole set, I've seen 30+ difference in factory stuff. They didn't balance stuff to the high tolerance performance shops do. Sounds like your machinist is too used to modern parts and aftermarket parts, which are ...

Re: 302 Clevo 2V Heads with undersized valve guides

I'd sleeve the guide to take a smaller 5/16" or 8mm stem valve, just for availability of part reasons combined with the benefit of lighter valve weights . If you have to keep cost down, ream to 11/32"/.343" for parts availability, that cuts of the cost of replacing or sleeving the gui...

This was Fords answer to the X ram problem. I wish they would have continued to make those carbs. Bill-C, do you ever see this setup used today? Is it still legal? Barry Grant put out something very much like that, just shortly before his company imploded. Called it the "Badman", it was b...

Re: Steel Main cap material

I am wondering if EN19 may be over speced, believe its equivelant of US Spec 4140 https://www.smithmetal.com/pdf/engineering/en19.pdf Way overspec'd....EN3B would be plenty, EN8 if you want to go overkill. You certainly don't need a hardenable tool steel alloy for main caps. Block will fail long be...

Scratch and the dent aren't anywhere close to a water passage or bolt hole, nothing but solid metal all around it....it'll seal up just fine.

My 406 with Stock 906 Vortec's went the best of 11.49 last night with the Elgin 1165P hyd cam. That’s really impressive. What’s the rest of the combo ? Sounds mild enough to be a great street/strip deal Thanks. It's 2nd gen Camaro with a flat top piston .030 speed pro's, 5.7 rod, scat crank that ba...
