Nothing is secret, it's just stuff we haven't learnt yet.

Yes, it is a golden age we live amongst now.

Re: Carb Casting Repair, Zinc Solder?

Same here, i definitely do not want to pick a side in this topic, but. The term restoration to many can mean two things. Restoration to end of production line replication, coatings, paint finishes, standard plating, everything standard as the product came off the line. Then there is restoration to p...

Re: Carb Casting Repair, Zinc Solder?

Agreed BC, production passivate tanks were run till they pretty much didn't look right or became fouled. Then they would be topped up or drained and re filled if fouled. The coatings no matter how good age, i have seen new old stock that has been wrapped up all its life, with blemishes, dulling and ...

Re: Giving a harley a decent exhaust?

Tony's bike has or had a VOES, your project has a MAP sensor, his map is 2D yours is 3D. There is not a lot you can take from his map.

Did the valve springs get replaced when the cams went in?

HDBD is right, generalizing with Harley engines is a problem.

Re: Giving a harley a decent exhaust?

A lot of horsepower can be burnt with a pipe, conversely in your engines current state of mod/tune i can not see even a 10% gain with any combination of pipe only that would not be cop bait. He says does not want a mid range hole, using a pipe design off a 7500/8000rpm flat track OHC on the pin engi...

Re: Giving a harley a decent exhaust?

I take it this bike is on the street? What year is it? it looks to have the SE Performance cam set? Has it been on the dyno yet? if so, what did it do? Quality two into ones give excellent results, if it has staggered duals a set of S&S taper turbos will handle anything you are likely to get out...

Re: cutting valve reliefs in pistons

There are instances of pistons being supplied [in my case] for what is described as higher comp or mild performance application that do not have radial clearance for a minor valve diameter change or TDC lift increase. This can be an issue when an installer is not aware of these conditions. I have no...

Re: cutting valve reliefs in pistons

This will be a final operation after heads are completed, and bear in mind anything removed is comp. Forged piston material is around 2.7gms/cc. be aware of under crown thickness. First, set the piston [fit some old rings] at TDC using the equivalent of the final head gasket thickness. Using the cen...

Re: AI is your friend

the last line covers it all. What will be the first thing detectable is sentence construction and then word choice. If you don't write the same way AI has written and use words that AI is using, i would imagine these would be the easiest to detect as not your work. I dont know if this is the case wi...

Re: Valve seat fell out

Early Pans had ears on the bronze seat inserts that would be held in by the surrounding casting. The most common fault with these heads was over zealous head re seating. Somewhere around 58 they went to press in seats at the same time they went from a 1.750" to 1.825" inlet valve. As has b...

Re: Ford announce plans to return to F1 from the 2026 season

Funny thing happened in the seventies, Formula Ford took off here as a breeder category to bigger things. The engine used was the English Ford Kent engine. The factory across the road from my parents home was building a batch of these open wheeler's and sourced new engines from Ford Australia for th...
