Re: Math Problem

Zeno Rocks :) If everything when it occupies an equal space is at rest at that instant of time, and if that which is in locomotion is always occupying such a space at any moment, the flying arrow is therefore motionless at that instant of time and at the next instant of time but if both instants of...

Re: titanium valve corrosion.

Guy dropped of an aluminum head with bronze guides and titanium valves. Car had been sitting for several years and they tried to fire it so they could sell it. It hung a valve open. The stems on two valves were corroded, kind of looked like the same corrosion you get on a battery terminal. I had to...

There are special funnels to help burp the air out of the system.

Re: Suggestions for a 4x4 pickup truck

Midsize pickup: Taco (Tacoma) TRD. V6 is not a gas miser, the 4cyl might be a better choice if not going to pull anything. Full Size pickup: my '17 Ecodiesel was trouble free. A buddy has one with 125k miles with only an air suspension problem. Avoid their air suspension. Avoid high end Ford 1/2 to...

Re: Oil Pan "Pulse Separation Walls"

... I wouldn't believe everything said at a car show, we know that's solid engineering but the sales end of it can get a bit muddied, look for SAE papers for facts. There isn't one piston going up for one coming down in each bay as stated and the fact that cross plane and flat plane cranks are both...

Re: Oil Pan "Pulse Separation Walls"

,,, The development of the LS included opening up around main caps to reduce pumping losses, something Porsche had done with their engines. It is more common to see rounded individual main caps in many production engines (look at the bolt pad area). The S.A.M. COPO Camaro build had radiused 'window...

Re: Oil Pan "Pulse Separation Walls"

Interesting. Trying to put order in the chaos within the pan like this will probably have diminishing returns, but I have a hard time seeing at the moment it could get worse than it already is. Trying to solve an imaginary problem is one thing, but with this being mostly hypothetical, I havent hear...

Re: Oil Pan "Pulse Separation Walls"

Within all the reading there is about crank scrapers and windage trays, I find buffeting between crank throws a neglected topic in cross/flat plane crank engines. Are there possible benefits to isolating crank throws with a wall from between the oil pan sides, up against the main caps, down below t...

Re: Reputable links for horsepower from windage tray/crank scraper

I know this thread is old, But I slogged through much of it, not all. My 2 cents about the cloud of droplets following the crankshaft around is only another series questions: Would oil exiting the main bearings be scraped off the crank journal by the air surrounding it as it spins? ... "High-s...

Re: titanium valve corrosion.

WAG

A chlorinated solvent was used to clean the heads in situ. Looks like that would explain the corrosion bloom seen in the bronze but it is also concerning that the solvent can attack Ti.

Remember that WAG means Wild Ass Guess.

Suggestions for a 4x4 pickup truck

My wife has a relative in France who has asked for help in selecting a sporty 4x4 pickup truck from the years 2012 through 2019. I know that is a very broad selection criteria. What would be extremely helpful is advice on what models to avoid due to some sort of problem that might not be immediately...
