Re: SBC solid lifter
How can you dress a 54" radius on a post grinder? Not being a smart ass, but I would like to know.

Re: SBC solid lifter
Is that a 54" radius? I guess he could grind a 54" radius form tool on his lathe and try to plung that all at one shot in a hardened lifter. Let us know if it works out please...lol

Re: 381 small block build
You don't have to flow test all 8 cylinders just to get an idea what your heads flow. Probably if you get port work done the flow testing will be included in that price. That 60 a cylinder for my guy was if i just took him a head and he flowed it with no other work. If you want port work done he pri...

Re: 381 small block build
When I said advertising I was referring to their sales marketing. Meaning that they do a good job getting their product where it needs to be seen by the consumer. I wouldn't use their advertised flow numbers as exact truth.

Re: 381 small block build
Sounds like you haven't found a good shop to me...Flowtesting isn't all that expensive, one of our local shops charges $60 a cylinder. If you don't like dealing with local shops then it sounds like to me it would be your best bet is to call a good head builder and buy something that is ready to bolt...

Re: Head Studs
Yes, it is easy to remove the studs then the head in the car.If you have blind holes and you dont have to put sealer on your threads install is just as easy. We always install the studs the wipe the excess thread sealer off before putting the head on. Other than that I dont see a problem, even witho...

Re: 381 small block build
If you are using promax's flow data as a comparison Iwould tell you to side by side flow test them with and AFR or whatever known head on the same bench. If it were me I would do the porting myself and save 800 dollars. If your not capable of doing the work spend the money on your heads, you know wh...

There are lots of cranks on eBay, without a link or a brand name it would be hard answer your question.

Re: 381 small block build
Why only a 582? You know your giving up HP by building the shorter stroke engine right? Even if it fits your chassis requirements and your budget, I know what's good for you...LOL

Re: 381 small block build
Why stop at a 406? If it were me I would dump the small block all together. Build a 632, after all they are well suited for a mild street strip type engine, plenty cheap to build a 632. Can anyone notice my sarcasm? OP I posted a thread very similar to this a while back because I too ran across a go...

Re: Questions about my alcohol SBC car.
Install Block heaters in the Freeze plugs, you can get them at Napa, or Jegs, wherever. Plug your car in in the morning like a diesel truck, and between runs. I run a carb alky set up. It keeps everything nice and hot which helps keep the condensation out of the oil. Plus it saves me a bunch of fuel...

Re: Cometic Head gasket rivets
I don't remember having them in the way on any of my builds either, that's why it struck me odd. This engine was in a dart block where mine are not. Maybe that is the difference.

Cometic Head gasket rivets
I was at my local shop last weekend hanging around and shooting the bull with the other regulars that hang out on Saturday mornings sometimes. I noticed a set of SBC heads on the bench, they were AFR's so I was curious and looking them over when I noticed on the gasket surface near the intake side o...
