The car is a mid 80s Camaro raced @ 475 feet elevation, dyno tested @ 900 feet elevation. The car has a T350 with 4.56 gears, 9 inch slick, around 3200 pounds race ready. All testing will be done @ Xtreme Raceway. More pictures

Moroso Speed Calculator 89650

I've seen the old Moroso slide rule has been mentioned here at Speed-Talk every now and then. I was kind of surprised at the amount of merit it gets from folks I wouldn't have thought put any faith into it. Opinions? FWIW, I went back and dug out some old time slips, chassis dyno results, engine bui...

Re: Exhaust sizing race car

Hey, Well I've built a new exhaust, lost a bit of ground clearance but gained 65 ish RWHP over the Flowmaster muffler Pretty happy with the results, guess big blocks need to breath IMG_6824.PNGIMG_6866.JPG There looks to be plenty of capacity there! Nice. I'd like to be able to do something similar...

Re: Vacuum Pumps: Plumbing Arrangement

Fixed orifice pcv valves pulling crankcase vacuum are a big part of how modern oem's are able to reap the benefits of low drag ring sets. Grant Seems there ae some race minded folks that use the PCV valve similarly. And in that case, racer or OEM, is the crankcase sealed or, as in a conventional PC...

Re: Vacuum Pumps: Plumbing Arrangement

Star mach gen 2 electric works great. We pull 25 plus inches on sbc stuff and about 23-24" on bbc stuff I'll pass the pump suggestion along to my friend. He's repurposing a Ford vacuum pump and there's some concern as to whether it'll handle combustion gases and oil very well. 25" seems a...

Re: Vacuum Pumps: Plumbing Arrangement

Ford Elec Vac Pump: To run one on the street you'd certainly need an oil separator, as I killed one on the dyno in just the short time we ran it. I'll certainly pass that longevity, or lack of it rather, to my friend. His latest comment regarding the Ford pump was regarding how long it would last.

Re: Vacuum Pumps: Plumbing Arrangement

Obviously. It happens. As a first time poster perhaps there's no realization how "tech" performance this forum is. Or how naïve the questions might be. What would be the objective if the post is of a sinister nature? Anyway, what do you think of my summary of vacuum pumps and pan evacuati...

Re: 401 sbc ready for the Dyno

Looks like the wishful thinking of staying with the inductive Ignition won’t come to fruition. Back to the dyno with MSD Digital6 on Tuesday. That's interesting. So the MSD box along with the Progressive distributor? I've an ancient MSD distributor that's only a trigger (no module) and use it with ...

Re: Vacuum Pumps: Plumbing Arrangement

But JC, if you were to answer their questions (and I've no interest in my post count) would it be along these lines? . Do you really think someone posting on one of the most "tech" performance engine sites really doesn't know how a vacuum pump works ? And that question would be their firs...

Re: Vacuum Pumps: Plumbing Arrangement

Is a vacuum pump setup beneficial for drag strip with open headers ? Street bracket racing Or would a evac setup work ok for strip Also with the setup do you remove breathers (vented filler cap to sealed) and pcv valve removed to work properly ..just vented at pump Or catch can ? Wow...... Seriousl...

Re: Vacuum Pumps: Plumbing Arrangement

Also moving the pcv to the catch tank should make it very unlikely that any oil could ever make it to the intake tract. Moving the ventilation out of the intake is the driving factor behind my friends push for an alternative. Somewhat similar to my own predicament several years with a well worn sho...

Re: 401 sbc ready for the Dyno

A bit more on the Progression Ignition. After using the Progression Ignition on the dyno this afternoon I don't know why they are not more widely used (actually I do know why. Fear of the unknown). Not fear of the unknown exactly but more like fear of an early demise or lack of support. What if I c...
