Re: camshaft intake valve closing

Certain valve events are appropriate for different criteria.

I have witnessed advancing a single camshaft, gain more power upstairs ... probably because the exhaust valve opens sooner and the exhaust needed the most help.

Not all heads have O.E.M. seat angle of 45 degrees ... though, that seat angle rule does not seem to be enforced these days; I think the newest rules, as written for the last few years, may even have that part deleted.

Re: NHRA STOCK valve job

You get to do lots of R&D to determine what valves and angles will yield the best results. Lots of flow bench testing to get results. Basically no modification to the ports, no grinding, no sandblasting, no nothing... Each head design is unique and wants different things. What combination is it...

Re: maxwedge just for fun

An engine on the dyno does not take into account the G-forces involved at the starting line of a drag race and throughout the entire run.

SO, just be aware.

Re: Cam bearing hole

I have never seen problems with the holes pointed down. It is easier on installation to align the holes with the main bearing holes, so I have seen a lot of engines installed that way. Maybe with really big spring pressures there are issues, I don't deal with engines with over 600lbs open pressure....

ok all , been faffing with hood clearances and my best bet fit a cast iron ( NOPE) or a low rise dual plane aftermarket - Yes. Going in a bbc 427 with a 221/226@50 cam , after idle to 5500/6000 rpm performance , snappy throttle , good street manners , push me back in the seat. Performer rpm won't f...

Girdles with poly-locks for a 3/8" stud are available from many places; directly from JOMAR, for one.

Re: Surface roughess on valve seats

Good day, I'm wondering if there are accepted values for seats and if they change for a steel vs bronse seat and froma stainless to Ti valve? I know usually you will have a finer stone to grind the Ti valves than stainless...and assume it's not a bad thing to use the fine stone on the stainless val...

Re: Stud Girdle to Prevent Pulled Rocker Studs?

I have a set of -416 sbc heads that I've ported. I want to run something like the Summit CT-102 solid FT cam with them. Likely around 330lbs spring pressure open, and don't want to have pulled studs. I know that pinning the studs is an option, but wondering as well if a stud girdle could also help ...
