The 180 degree exhaust blowdown interference is a non-factor at high rpm’s where power is made. Therefore, I wouldn’t want to touch the exhaust manifolds. So maybe I missed something and this particular engine couldn't benefit from Nitrous Oxide? The key things I was looking at was fun and lowering resale value. The big thing with gasoline engines is whether the engine is octane limited or not. Optimization accommodates the knock constraint fairly dramatically which moves the peak pressure timing and also completely reshapes the pressure curve.

I believe that the exhaust must be held open until the piston starts expanding the combustion chamber enough to take over the pull. Compression ratio and rpm will be a part of this expansion too. If the exhaust closes before the piston pulls enough the intake flow will start, stop and start over. I...

When I played with early exhaust opening in simulation it made far less difference than I thought, especially to primary length.
