Re: Ls headed 4cyl
I imagine our friend here mike Jones could come up with something. Mike did one cam for my SC1 head engine, it was bad fast but we couldn't find any cam cores. Found a cam to regrind from Brayton and it died right away. Hardness was too shallow and the roller started eating into it. Maybe with his ...

Re: When are Offset Lifters Needed ?
I was told once by an old engine machinist, "Building a racing engine is a series of compromises that include budget, type of racing, parts available, engine platform, rules etc." We have to sit down and design within said parameters, usually for the Sportsman racer budget is a pretty larg...

Re: Ls headed 4cyl
Gaerte midget blocks were used with Inline Chevy, SB2, Ford C3/SC1, Buick, Olds, they were machined for pretty much anything. I have a couple Ford drilled blocks that would likely work easily with an LS head. The only difficulty I found is the decent cam cores dried up after Earl's passing. The comp...

Re: mixing Coated and NON Coated Bearings
The engine I built a few months ago has both. I had 3 sets of mains and rods to mix and match. I was being overly anal on with it but a lot of time and money invested and I wanted what I wanted

Re: Piston pin coatings
I had that issue once on a SBC, went from .927 to .928 pins and fit them to the rods and pistons

Straub Technologies youtube video "Push rod geometry for engines" is the way I have done it for 8,000 rpm+ engines with no valvetrain issues.

Re: when are 3/4 grooved main bearings needed for bbc ?
I have a billet crankshaft that was built for a reverse rotation engine. The oiling hole in the rod journal is in the what would be usual 1 o'clock-ish location for reverse rotation putting it at 11 o'clock-ish in standard location. I assume using as standard rotation is out of the question? Basical...

Re: What would you do if your motor was built like this?
I bought one from a "Friend" a couple years ago, damn near the same thing. "Dyno tuned" as well. Luckily I caught it before ever using it when I decided to do a leak down and it was like it had no valves at all

Re: Dart 180 cc alloy head as cast
I have a couple different engine combos that I dyno on the same unit. The only numbers I really care about is if I'm better or worse than my last run and I also look at uncorrected numbers to compare to my own weather station readings. I have beaten more than one guy with a supposed 15-20% more powe...

Re: Fontana midget - MLS head gasket?
I ran Gaerte blocks but I believe the Fontana is basically a Chevy II. The original head back in the late 70's/early 80's was Australian, I remember Bud Meyer building one with a Chevy II block and setting a few records in boat racing.

Perfect, thank you. With a MSD distributor, the ignition fires when the trailing edge of the reluctor blade passes the center the the steel strip in the pickup.

Setting initial start up timing
I am getting a new engine ready for the dyno. Locked timing (no mechanical advance), I usually set the engine at 20* btdc and line up the reluctor wheel direct on the pick up MSD dist. My question is when does the electronic fire? Right on the pick up, just passed? With points it was simple to get i...
