Re: Carb recommendation SBC 383

Probably, 1.375 and stepped downlegs. I have done a bunch of shit everyone will tell you should never be done, like 830 annular 9381 on a rather mild 355, whatever the old 'Vega' converters stalled at, street driven, and then a 9375 Dominator on a 11:1 383 with only a Comp 280 HFT, but a much looser...

Re: Carb recommendation SBC 383

I would not go larger than 1.375" with downleg boosters, for 357" and 'street'. Annular can go larger and as previously argued over for most non-heated single planes the droplet size is likely to be closer to what it likes with a standard .600" ID, 8-hole insert. Standard plain-Jane e...

Re: Carb recommendation SBC 383

"CFM" is a marketing number; venturi size and booster type is much more useful for comparison.

Re: How centered does a piston pin need to be?

The Goodson/OTC/whatever fixture is one that supports the pin end of the rod and doesn't touch the piston at all.

Re: Solid roller regrind

I think that would still be about 30 degrees too big.

Re: Carb recommendation SBC 383

What is it about the annular boosters that might contribute to diminished top end output as opposed to a down leg style? ...a carb with good emulsion has a lot bigger window of what it will tolerate vs a lot of the lesser off the shelf stuff that claim all kinds of tuneability. That's right. If any...

Re: How centered does a piston pin need to be?

I have never in my life seen a problem caused by a pressed pin not being centered in the piston - as long as it hasn't lost the press and walked out and chewed up the cylinder wall. I have seen them all over the place. It is just not something to worry about. Yes, sure, if you are the one installing...

Re: How centered does a piston pin need to be?

So this dude is going to take his pressed-pin big block and go enter it in this year's 24H Le Mans or something?

If there were only one version of a "750" that would be really helpful.

Re: Carb recommendation SBC 383

One specific annular carb vs. one specific downleg carb on one specific engine? Glad you found what worked best on your combo.

Re: Carb recommendation SBC 383

Annular boosters with a single plane with no manifold heat will not be finnicky or do things it's not supposed to. Annular with a heated manifold, maybe.

Re: Cam bearing hole

"have it apart" means what? Out of the car and rotating assembly out, or in the car and only cam/lifters out? Makes a big difference. If it's out of the car and the crank is out I'd replace them and put them in right. If only the cam is out try to forget you ever saw it.
