Re: HEI pulling timing. Any solutions?

I wouldn't say the emphasis is emissions reduction for the applications we're discussing, rather an improvement in overall efficiency, and a better running engine. But yeah, the price of admission and the learning curve are definitely considerations. Just seems like a car seeing any amount of street...

Re: HEI pulling timing. Any solutions?

Thecurve does not retard when proper GM advance weights and center is used.GM designed in compensation for this with the OEM HEI diz Bullshit. Since they don’t all retard the same amount and the same RPM you are wrong. Without putting the distributor on a machine just like it is the car you have no...

Re: HEI pulling timing. Any solutions?

Devils advocate here, modern ignition systems are relatively inexpensive and easy to install. The new msd ultra 6al for example is completely programmable. Allows you to get rid of the mechanical and vacuum advance entirely, a little bit of a learning curve, but overall a better system. You can trig...

Re: Howards Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifters - What In The World?

Those are really, really bad. That is why you should get some 25 yr old [ or older ] factory [ or aftermarket ] lifters....& have them re-faced. Then you won't have problems with junk lifters.... For true. My partner, who builds the SBCs, saves the old Delphi lifters with the chilled iron butto...

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build

. EFI existed before the switch away from big fat rings and they ate the bores out pretty much the same as the earlier carbed engines with the big fat rings. Not so sure that is 100% accurate, over the winter have helped two friends tear into 638 block l98 Corvette engines, both over 100,000 miles,...

Re: Racing parts sales scams

I have one of the certified checks it even has the water mark on it but unless your bank calls the bank that supposedly issued the check and check the numbers on it a teller can’t tell and will just cash it and you won’t find out until later on and if you have that kind of money in your account the...

Re: Bill Jones books ISBN

Do you mean Bill aka "grumpy" Jenkins Books? If so, simple Google search brings up the book he co authored in the late 70's early 80's The small block Chevy racing engine, it is no longer in print and used copies tend to command quite the premium. Amazed the publisher hasn't released it ag...

Re: Lets talk about intake gaskets . . . . .

It seems not all Fel-Pro Performance Intake Gaskets are created equally. Is there a paper 1205 equivalent without the bead? You can get the 1205s3. @ .065" vs the 1205 @ .060. the s3 denotes a steel core. You can also get the one that works with 55-86, and Vortec heads. but it is substantially...

Re: Lets talk about intake gaskets . . . . .

Had similar issues with a 1205 set. It was purchased during Covid, so I chalked it up to bad QC. But now you have me wanting to pull the intake and check. Thanks BillK. 🤣

I've got two cores in my garage. Both 96/97 L31. Weird the bolt holes are drilled but the pushrod hole for the pump is not machined. Both 2bolt mains.
