Re: Piston to valve discussion

If you've got lots of intake PTV just advance the cam a couple of degrees.

Re: Valvetrain Geometry: Mid-Lift Method vs Valve Tip Patter

Why on earth doesn't someone make rockers with an adjustable pushrod cup? Sure would make it easier for fine tuning vtg.

Re: head port measuring.

Inside calipers. And carefully mark the spots I'm measuring so I get them in the same place when I remeasure.

Re: 355 sbc estimated hp

I would estimate 600-620 hp
Really needs 850-1000 cfm carb though, but your 750 will only slow the car down 1/10 or so.

Re: HEADER MODELING SYSTEM

Probably not quite as nice as the systems you're looking for but I just use vacuum cleaner hose.
Cut it into the lengths you want and build 1 pipe at a time.

Re: Street 4-bolt 350" SBC with .080" over ??

What size are the bores now? Might be able to go 0.065.
I wouldn't touch 0.080
If you do it make it clear there's no warranty.

Re: How Does Port Velocity Affect Cam Lsa Needed

Yes you're quite right. But add to it this: when a port is higher velocity the ram tuning effect is greater. That means that when the intake valve starts opening, there is a charge of air pushing past the valve. So to me this means that the intake valve should be opening early so we can take advanta...

Re: How Does Port Velocity Affect Cam Lsa Needed

Very generally speaking, the slower the port flows, the earlier you want to close the intake valve. This is because the slow port will have less inertia in the intake flow, which won't carry it as long after BDC. So instead of risking reversion from too late IVC for that port, close the intake valv...

Re: How Does Port Velocity Affect Cam Lsa Needed

Thank you, this has been bouncing round my head for quite sometime now! There's many factors affected by changing lsa. To me its easier to work out what the valve opening/closing events need to be, then you're left with lsa. I've always gone with the thinking that if one has a small, high speed inta...

Re: Dynamic comp.ratio

There are a lot of variables which need to be considered. V.E, weight of car, gearing, how is driven etc.
But its basically determined by octane.

Re: 104 vs 106.5 LSA

[/quote] I bet the first cam would run pretty sweet backed up to a 104 or 105 ICL. Shawn I may do that, Shawn. On the 2nd cam the lifters will be sitting .100 further down the lifter bores. Personally I don't think you'd notice the difference in power between the 2. Thanks for the info, Biteme. So ...

Re: Engine Idea...What do you think?

Check the main size of the shp block. It may only be 350 main size. If you use a long stroke crank it may be a bit flimsy (not enough overlap between main and rod journals).
A better option might be 406 or 420??cu.
Sounds like a weapon though :)

Re: New small block build

I personally am fine with cast pistons. I imagine most folk on here will hate them though. Cast pistons are fine until they break, then there's tears. Just what they take to break is a gamble. Rule if thumb I use is to NEVER rev them past 7000. And to get them to live at over 6000 requires careful b...

Re: New small block build

Do yourself a favor, listen to the guys above. A good set of heads will last a long time. Competition Products sells a pair of Brodix Track 1 assembled for around $1400, a much better choice for longevity. On that subject, at 12.5-1 CR and 383", what kind of power would, or should it make with...
