Re: Comparative strengths

Nomex you say.

Refractory ceramic fiber will withstand upwards to 3,000 degrees!

If I remember right AP Green made 2,000, 2,400, and 2,600 degree fiber at their Pryor, OK fiber plant..

And the stuff looks just like cotton!

Possible stroke?

Did Ron Paul have a mild stroke recently?

Just asking, I can't keep up on this stuff.

And please don't start into politics!!

Re: Estimating HP peak rpm?

Travis,

I don't know if it is even sold/used anymore, but use something like D2k to predict your hp/rpm peak using whatever cam you want.

It's a real hoot to play with, imho.

BUT I think it uses DOS instead of windows so you will need an old computer to run it.

Good luck playing around.

Re: building period correct 327/365hp motor for 65 Corvette

I installed my 496 in my car back in 2001 and Mom died in 2002 so I just lost interest in it. I really need to light-off my 496 and then build my little high winding jewel. When I open the garage bay it is in, it's as though it is sitting there just waiting to hit the road looking at me! Kinda like ...

Re: Comparative strengths

Back before I left AP Green Refractories, I had to hot gun industrial furnaces like aluminum reverbs! We had silvered asbestos coats and pants to try to stop the heat from burning us. I think they use Kevlar now since asbestos is a no-no! Oh, hot gunning was done from like 1200 degrees all the way u...

Re: building period correct 327/365hp motor for 65 Corvette

Thanks Rust, I appreciate it. I do want to say that the old 365hp/327 is no slouch by any means, (2.5" ramshorns and all). And the old 30-30 solid cam has a distinct sound all its own. If you have ever heard a STOCK Z28, 302 engine with the 30-30 cam in it, you will know just what I mean! Guys ...

Re: building period correct 327/365hp motor for 65 Corvette

If I live long enough, I am going to make onna these little high rpm 325" jewels. 4.155" block; 3" medium journal crank with spacer bearings; 6.25" long rods; EQ 200 cc intake port, 50 cc chambers, cast iron heads, 2.02"/1.60" valves; Shim head gaskets; Stepped flat top...

Re: Mild performance build of my original 327 for my 1964 Corvette

I might have missed it, but what are the reg's? And the tranny again? Anyway a 4-speed and decent reg's at 10.5 to 1 CR in a good 331 will run like a scalded dog with just a good old Isky Z-25 solid lifter cam. It might even give the 383 a run for the money? You get her up to 11 to 1 CR and drop a Z...

I figure that you will really like it.

Re: NA Engine With No Damper?

if you want to look into it, when the 1st 265 SBC came out, it just had a hub on it.

Please check me out here some of you OLD guys.

Fwiw, I had a STOCK, 265/PG Belaire H/T back then, wished I still had it. It had a top can oil filter on it, weird.. Like a Stude V-8 had if I remember right?

lefty,

I don't want to let it go because I learned a lot of current events from it.

I know that the hate and discontents killed it but I tried not to be a part of it.
