Re: Ignition curve discussion
Did you look into a dragy? Yeah I’m gonna get one. Good. I really look forward to knowing what your final timing curve is. Hopefully the dragy will prove worthwhile for you. If you end up much different than what most expect, I might consider an ignition like yours. The only problem with this phone...

Re: Oil smoke revisited
What can I do to resolve this? Not sure, I was just commenting based on logic. I've never tackled this issue. Forgive me if this has already been asked in the thread, but is the engine tilted back at all in it's mounted position? having the back of the engine lower helps the oil find the drains.

Re: Ignition curve discussion
Is it the case that the engine would like more and more advance as the revs build, and the reason for not adding more advance after 3000 rpm or so is because you just run up against detonation? Just curious what you all think. My understanding--from listening to other folks, not independent researc...

Re: Ignition curve discussion
Really sophisticated professional level teams use pressure sensors to optimize the ignition curve on each cylinder. They get into it here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rBZCnG1HwDM 98% of the builders out there are likely running the same ignition timing across the board and tune it via dyno testin...

The OEMs spend thousands of hours on chassis dynos, on the highways in all possible weather, temperature and altitude combinations to dial in the ignition advance curve. They're optimizing...

Ignition curve discussion
I have the programmable ignition from Progression Ignitions in my big block now (along with a new cam from Mike Jones), and it has never run better. With this new cam and my big intake ports, the engine likes a lot of advance, as my compression is probably a full point lower than what it could be fo...

Re: Oil smoke revisited
I watched it more closely today and it seems to indeed smoke especially after a longer fast turn. Indifferent if left or right. Not sure what to do with that one though. Well if it is oil pooling in the heads and flooding the valve seals under lateral load, then it makes sense that it would do rega...

FWIW, I just got a cam from Mike (forum owner) and it is super sweet. You may want to consider having him make you a cam custom for your combo. I doubt you'd find a better cam.

A little outside the norm for this forum (racing karts)
Back in the early 2000's I raced shifterkarts at a professional level in the SKUSA ProMoto Tour. Just ran across these pictures from the 2002 Austin GP. My dad (now deceased) and I did all the engine development for our package in house. The engines started life as 1999 Honda CR125 motocross engines...

Re: PCV valve or Catch Cans for street performance
I use a fixed orifice PCV valve pulling through an oil separator. At every oil change I drain 4-6 ounces of oil from the separator. Seems to work well. 500-ish HP big block chevy

Re: Oil Smoke driving me crazy
I've always had a little bit of oil on a few spark plugs when I pull them out. My car doesn't noticeably smoke, but it uses maybe a quart every few thousand miles. From what I've seen, this isn't out of line for a mark IV big block. Leak down is good (all cylinders less that 2%), compression is with...

from what I have been reading, you want to go the other way to move the torque peak up.

I didn't mean to sound like I was accusing you of anything. I'm not very internet or computer savvy but appreciate the discussion. It continually amazes me how you come up with such obscure information!! Still, I think your searching often helps me with my very simple viewpoint. Current motor car c...
