Re: Head Studs or Bolts?

Yeah, probably, So it would wear the threads on the block less. Which like I said has pros and cons. Keep in mind with conrods the bolt VS screw battle is still not settled, and opposite. LOL At the end of the day IMO, the popularity of studs is because..... cheaper to make a high quality stud than ...

Re: Head Studs or Bolts?

On other forums, people have stated that studs provide less distortion in the cylinder walls because the only loads on the stud threads are clamping, without any twisting loads.....whereas a bolt is clamps AND twisting. That seems to make sense, and why I am asking the question. BUT.....that doesn'...

Re: Head Studs or Bolts?

using studs might improve the issue slightly, unless you use a higher clamp load, then it will be worse. If the rings are working good enough then don't worry about it. Torque plates help a lot but they don't fully fix this. Blocks shift as they are running and heat cycled.... so many engines you se...

Re: Rod bearing crush too much?

Why would it matter? You can look at all the rod bearings in the catalog and see a very strong trend as far as sizing and thickness and torque. So that's pretty well established technology of how to put a bearing in a steel rod. Some variation in the size and torque of the bolt VS the section of the...

Re: No more King XP bearings

I've found poor quality bearings from most major companies at one time or another. Including Daido. Just makes you appreciate when they do a good job I guess. And of course a lot of very good bearings too. But it does seem like they make bearings in big batches, so, maybe better that you figure out ...

Re: Rod bearing crush too much?

My comment about it being discussed in the past was mostly aimed at the other posters, but in any case here is what I found googling myself briefly. hmmm, that sounds wrong LOL https://www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=49678 https://www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=53428 https://www.s...

Sounds like too much crush imo.
We have discussed this a few times before. I can search for you later if you are not finding it.

Re: HP single carb 4 cylinder examples ?

COOL!
I was thinking of the pontiac super duty for instance.
You can probably make as much power as you want as long as you don't mind the idle, cruise, and throttle response being abysmal.

Re: DIY CNC-Valve seat cutting machine: Air-Cushion vs. Fixed spindle?

Why would it be necessary to strongly lock the pilot into the spindle? There should be no real turning torque on the pilot. the set screw just keeps it from falling out, that's all that is needed. If the pilot did seize in the guide it would be preferable for it to spin in the tool holder rather tha...

Re: Scat Pro Comp I-Beam Connecting Rods - Balancing/Grinding

Just grind all around the big end and small end..... not in any specific spot.
Some rods have a designated area to grind ......but that's now what these are.

Re: DIY CNC-Valve seat cutting machine: Air-Cushion vs. Fixed spindle?

Sure I'll agree with that. It's hard to make a machine to do everything. Imo four or less car/motorcycle it makes sense to float the table. L6 or flathead, big deisels, better to float the spindle. So maybe i'd go with a parallel floating spindle designed for four cylinders. To to longer heads, just...

Are you telling me how to do it? Lol

Why can the spindle designed to tilt 5 degrees if it has no purpose hot shot?

Re: DIY CNC-Valve seat cutting machine: Air-Cushion vs. Fixed spindle?

The serdi ball-joint mounted spindle is a lot easier if doing canted valve heads. Guides only need to be within a degree or two of vertical, not perfectly vertical. Will you be doing heads with canted valves? If your spindle is always perfectly fixed vertical then that means you need to get each gui...
