Re: Welding chamber in aluminum head

And yes i can remember when getting tig done was almost unheard of, flame welding alloy castings was an art, there were a few places here that were very good at it...I...

Re: Locks For 7mm Valve Stem 7°
The Harley lock 18260-02 7mm triple groove will work well, it is a stamped product, if you want a machined collet you could use Kibblewhite 20-21404. AV&V also do 7mm triple groove collet sets.

Re: Base Oil Groups Explained
Covered it in a nut shell, dannobee. Who wants to put their hand up if something does not work out? because there is that much rolling stock ,plant and equipment in service in any railway system consolidation makes very good sense, but, who wants to don the cross hairs? I would say in the system i w...

Re: Base Oil Groups Explained
Thanks for the post Kevin. i read with interest the section on lubrication consolidation, it had more to do with streamlining inappropriate storage more so than actual product line consolidation. This bought an instance to mind that was experienced where i used to work in the railways. With numerous...

Re: Why does a tighter lsa need more compression?
In reply to mt's post, I think the thing that people should/could/ would seek first is that their final target engine can be achieved in their current engine being developed / modified. I have had customers with engines that have been modified in stages over years that want to go to the next big ste...

Re: Piston ring question Napier second ring
In a P/S engine we ran we had 20" pan vac, on our data if we saw the pan vac start to decrease towards the end of the run we knew we were up for rings pretty much straight away. Is this also the case for you mt?

Re: Piston Question
1972, the large groove under the top ring is a gas brake. I have been using KB hypereutectic pistons for many years now, If you adhere to their fitment instructions you cant go wrong. That also applies to application. Some years back an importer here standardized on KB for their performance pistons,...

Re: Why does a tighter lsa need more compression?
a digress on the topic at hand, Knight is right, a lot of guys don't have the comp they think they have, i have dealt with customers that have a combination of parts that they assure me makes 10.5 or whatever the claimed comp is for the combo, and i have suggested a wet out to confirm and have then ...

Re: Silicone RTV for molds?
There are two that i have used, one is called ' White condensation cure RTV-2 Silicone M4503/T35' [also known as Elastosil M4503] in a 1kg kit, the other is 'Flexivinyl 1kg Red'. The Flexivinyl red is a one part semi rigid molding, that is melted in a saucepan then poured into the shape required, i ...

Re: Porting question...
Yes Steve, get the seats cut first. On the stuff i do there are a number of stem protrusions used that leave an array of chamber drops, i do get a radius blend out from my top cut [2V]that helps chamber blending, and the bottom inlet angle to port id is at 90°so i have a margin to work to. The exhau...

Re: Porting question...
On the engine i do i have spare heads that are of no real value until someone wants to buy them. That said, there are three types commonly submitted for porting, one went 84 to 99, 99 to 2017 and 2017 to present. The earlier heads were two valve and the later four valve. Over the years i have test p...

Is it possible to get a junker head and port all the ideas you want to try on? I have reduced a head to swarfe by progressively trying what might be worth trying.
