Re: cutting valve reliefs in pistons

I must admit I'm somewhat surprised.
Frequently, such effort on my part is met with one of the following.
1. "You're wrong"
2. "I already knew that"
3. "It's not relevant to the original post"

Because of the shallow SLR, some of these combinations will knock at low RPM in traffic, where an auto trans would not.

Re: Fluid COOLER Mounting Orientation

Intake is low because heat rises.
Way back, small race bikes didn't use a pump, the natural thermal action provided sufficient cooling.

Re: cutting valve reliefs in pistons

Trigonometry may also supply another minor data point. The piston motion near TDC is relatively mild in terms of motion per degree of crankshaft rotation. The range will be linear to the stroke length, but also track "n" (the connecting rod to stroke ratio). Very low "n" values (...

(Continued from above) To calculate the lateral (scrub) movement (L): L = (Sine of valve stem angle) × lift change Sine 26°= .438 A BBC intake valve valve moving @ 26° from .100" open to contact at .200" (dial on the stem) will track across the dome by .044". If you had only .060"...

Re: cutting valve reliefs in pistons

The optimal shape of the valve relief in the dome will vary. An engine with vertical valves (parallel to the bore axis) will display a perfect concave disc (a short cylinder, with its diameter exceeding the valve head diameter by a safety & flow enhancement distance, and the height the relevant ...

I've wanted twins for many years

#1 reason for anything but a race car: to talk about it.

What's your reason for making it more expensive, complicated, and heavy?

I have twins on my 2JZ-GTE Lexus but they're factory.

Re: Oil viscosity vs engine longevity

It was discovered, painfully, 50 years ago that VW Type I (beetle) engines running heavier than 20 weight blew up.
The heavy oil didn't carry away heat from the bearings fast enough.
