Re: Small engine boring machine
Good machine although I think they are out of business. 3-finger centering similar to KW. Tooling is cheap. Been using one for 40 years for smaller-midsize MC cylinders. Very few issues over the years. Minor replacement parts are universal. Larger MC/ATV/Jetski bores using KW FWS11.

Re: PipeMax question
Larry, Assume you are limited in camshaft lift. If your intake or exhaust "time-area RPM" is much lower than intake or exhaust "system RPM" is that an indication that more camshaft duration would help HP/Torque? Say, 8000RPM vs 9200RPM. Also, what is a good target for intake and ...

Cam intake lobe vs exhaust lobe
I am considering a DOHC motorcycle and maybe this question will apply to other applications. Will someone explain the difference between the profile of a camshaft intake lobe and an exhaust lobe of same lift and duration? And, why there is a difference? I understand that the intake has a different &...

Contact Eric at Rebco Machine. He can coat top and sides. Priced right. Plus he is a real master at custom piston machine work. Nice guy and only a couple of miles from me.

Re: harbor freight titanium nitride drill bits
How about Chinese (import) carbide cutters and inserts for mill/lathe work? I have been tempted to try but have not yet.
Feedback anyone?

Re: harbor freight titanium nitride drill bits
OK on aluminum. Dulls quickly on steel. Not exactly straight either. Questionable if I will buy again. Don't buy the ones with hex end as the hex will break off easily and they are definitely not straight.

Re: Valve springs squareness
Replace the springs!
Titanium valves
19 runs
.080 before coil bind
126lb seat pressure OK
Thankfully no valve dropped.
Replaced with PSI with no more issues.

Re: Rectifying slight rust on crank shaft journals
One part molasses and nine parts water. Let soak a few days. No more rust. Find old Hot Rod article on rust removal using molasses on internet. Also, other good info on the net. Molasses is used in cattle feed. So, if you have something large to clean like rusted door panels you can find molasses in...

Re: Strange wear on camshaft lobes and buckets
Buckets must spin easily in the lifter bore. If not, then early damage will result. Seen it many times with DOHC motorcycle heads.

Piston/wall clearance issue 2618 alloy
Customer brought in a set of new but old Venolia pistons (2618 alloy) for a street turbo application on air cooled motorcycle. Inline 6 cylinder Honda big bore 72mm (2.835"). Instructions say .005-.007 piston/wall clearance but that seems excessive. Called Venolia guy and he said .0045-.005. (V...

Re: Stress relieving cast iron
Does anyone ever install a cast iron sleeve in a cast iron block with "zero crush" (i.e. no interference fit) and LockTite, assuming a flange step at the bottom of the bore to keep the sleeve from falling?

Stress relieving cast iron
Does anyone stress relieve engine blocks after doing some machining? I know stress relief is good when welding, but how about machine work? The reason I ask is that I just installed two sleeves in an antique Norton motorcycle with cast iron cylinder block. The interference fit was .002". I &quo...

Re: Drag car. ...popping on deceleration
On a motorcycle with IR and pops on deceleration, just open idle mixture screw 1/2 turn (plus or minus) to richen mixture. Popping stops for the most part.
