The words of wisdow that I just read is dead on the mark. I've built maybe 150 motors, so my experiences are a little slim compared to those who really build motors. The mistakes that I most often see are monster carbs, cams, headers with everything else in between to damned small or weak. Just my 2 cents worth. Roger D Johnson
P.S. over sized crank bearings (for undersized journals) were a danger many years ago. The makers would pile the babbit and tin onto a standard shell (insert) to reach .020" or maybe .060". Those inserts were weak, but now all the makers of inserts use a steel shell of a pre determined thickness and then apply the soft metal as required to give a strong, long lasting surface for the journal to run on. i.e. The shell actually has the over size in the steel, not the bearing surface itself.
