When you guys are honing with plates do you just bolt the plate to the deck or use a head gasket between the deck and the plate.
I was taught to use the same type of head gasket (felpro, victor, copper etc) that the motor will be using at final assembly.

We duplicate everthing that will be used on there engine as far as gaskets being used and head bolts or head studs as we have the customers fill out a spec sheet before we work on there block.

-Personally I'd rather use good used head gaskets (when using fabric gaskets) that have been run.
-I found that brand new gaskets distorted the blocks more than the same gasket after it had been thru at least one running and a cold to hot to cold cycle.
-I feel the freeze plugs, cam bearings and maincaps should all be in place and the main caps torqued.
-Some guys even want everything in place including the motor mounts, bellhousing and water pump etc.

I don't buy new head gaskets for every block we plate hone as it would not be very cost effective. We always have the mains torqued when plate honing.
On the engies we have leaked down before refreshened are less then 2% leak down and now signs of blowby under the top rings and by installing the cam bearings and freeze plugs will make the end results better I really can't see it .
