I use a 50/50 mix of diff oil with a EP additive and lucas oil stabilizer.

It makes a really sticky lube that is still an oil but not a grease.

I work for GMH in australia and diff oil is what they use on valve stems

I either use straight 50W oil or EOS on valve stems.

I just started using EOS as assembly lube on cylinders and valve stems, it's nice to hear someone else doing that! I'm trying to break the old habit of using moly grease. I use that gooey red stuff on other parts, does anyone know what's in there?

Let it sit for a while, and it will dry up. I used to use it for almost everything, but, like Lubriplate, it's not good if it's going to sit for a while.

Set some out somewhere for a while, and you'll see.

Good Luck!

The valve guide is one of the first places to get heat and the last place to get oil,we use STP on valve guides ,it stays if the heads sit around awhile before fireup, also use STP to keep valve spring shims in place while assembling heads. We do not use STP for anything else.

One problem with STP is it's hygroscopic. It takes up water and causes rust.

I use the red stuff like Clevite bearing guard or comp cam lube. I think its made by the Slip Kote company and packaged under various trade names.
