ALKYBURNER wrote:Does anyone have a pbm block that can have it Rockwell tested to see if it does have a high brinnel figure. Not have them side by side but the only difference I can see is the Chinese one has a black coating and the pro comp has a screen bolts and engraved caps. Have seen the Chinese block and it is not even as good as a 010 block in fact a 400 block is better( hard to believe I know) The Chinese block we have at our shop and the one picture posted here has the oil pump threaded hole welded if you look close and its done after the black oxide cause the heat from welding tarnishes the black finish. I wonder what the boys at dart think of this. The Chinese one is a definite copy of theirs to a T. CNC: when are you going to have more information on this: locations, and dimensions.
Sould have some pics and loction numbers by the end of the week and may start another thread.

I think the pitch about being from New Zealand is just a marketing scheme!!
Yep, I heard some stories like that about some of the Chinese heads, when I got them, they were wrapped in rice paper and it was obvious by the boxing that it was a Chinese piece! After confronting the supplier about this, they came clean and said they were mistaken..

The chinese junk is also marketed "through" the australians as well. We all know full well by looking at it its chinese. The nasty oil gives it away

What blocks are they selling?
I remember one that was supposed to be from India or something but have heard nothing about them for quite some time & was told they are no longer on their site??
Could it be they figured out what the "quality" was???

I could be wrong, actually hope I am,,,,
But this whole NZ deal sounds about like the ProComp heads coming from Australia BS that was being pawned off a few years ago
Yea they came from Australia,,, there is a "gentleman" there that knows how to import crap & market it too

PBM block

Post by n2fastuff »

I have a question. As to who and where you folks are getting info from? I am going to the source at the distributor for answers instead of the hear-say speak going on here. I have seen these blocks in person.Rep didn't say where they are made. NOT A BAD LOOKING PIECE. For the dollar figure involved, and all the included pieces it seemed to be a great deal. ....will post back if I can find out more info myself

How many of you actually read and comprehended this whole thread ... the blocks LOOK just fine and the machining is OK but, they are SOFT ... how exactly are you planning to alleviate that...?

I think one needs to be careful when saying the PBM blocks are the same as the chinese blocks.

I have found evidence online that Haigh Blocks Ltd. (they are a New Zealand foundry casting Co.) Recently shipped to both PBM and Comp cams

PBM received an undisclosed amount of engine blocks. "Example Customer: Pbm Performance Products (last shipment included "Engine Blocks")"

http://panjiva.com/Haigh-Blocks-Ltd/1781004

**************************************
Comp received a total 6575Kg of castings in a recent shipment (RHS heads??)

http://www.importgenius.com/shipments/haigh-blocks.html
****************************************************

Also consider price point. The Chinese block sold as Pro Comp on eBay sells for $1000 or less.

The PBM block sells for $2155, close to a Little M. PBM says their block is high quality high nickle. They would need a big set of #$%@ to sell the $1000 block for $2155

Someone needs to have both blocks side by side before making claims that it's the same block.

I have alot more info on these blocks then I am telling and they are the same castings and the PBM blocks are sent to Florida for engraving on the caps and block and stud kit added and line honed and finished machined.

Look at the casting lines on the side of the blocks as they are the same and a simple brinell test well verify what I have been saying.

Look at the oil galley hole that goes through the lifter bores and they are to low and they are not the same height from front to rear and we can see that by eye and if the rear cap looks like there is a plug welded in for the threads.
