Anybody know where there's a set of Jim Feulings "figure 8 chamber" truck heads? I'd be interested... Ken

I think you may need as much as 20k for a good set. If Tom Kline is still with us he may know if there are any around. I saw a pair up for sale a couple months ago, they were 20k. Stuart.

 Seriously? Are they that rare/incredible that they demand coffee table-art price? I thought they were just great tow truck heads!

AFAIK, there were only 6-8 sets ever made.

Curious minds need to know.

If I remember I think Jims 454 run about 54 MPG with those heads, they were quite efficient. Basically a street head designed for combustion efficiency. :)

What would be the closest, cheap alternative to the Feuling heads. The truck I'm looking at would be a mid to late 90's 454 3500 crew cab dually pulling about a 28-30' tag enclosed, with a maximum 10K lbs of trailer weight. I dont require a torque beast, I used to be happy with how my 6.5 diesel pulled, just want something reliable, wont overheat, and gets [-o< at least 10mpg towing now that diesel fuel is getting out of hand. I love the older crew cabs too much, but the new casting 6.5 replacement motors are kinda pricey.... Suggestions? Thanks, K

Just wondered what you mean by pricey?
I do quite a few of them and the new blocks cranks and heads are on par with a sm blk chev by comparsion about the same cost.

I heard Jim speak at a superflow conference in the 90s.
During the talk he refered to a set of big block heads he had developed for Mercury Marine.
Cant rember all the specifics. He referenced the valve seat design and valve margin. the margin was something like .060/.080 wide.
He dident say any thing about the combustion chamber. I dont think.
The maring engine made something like 1000 ft/lb of torque @ 800 RPM.
Made so much lowend power they went 2 steps different on the prop.
I tried local Mercury dealers but of course they knew nothing.
the industry lost a HELLof a inovator and designator when he died.

Sounds like Jim had a great mind and was very inventive. To bad he is gone. :(

I was at that conference as well. I visited him at his lab/shop in Ventura a couple of times, LOVED the tank he had parked behind it.
