what criteria determines gas port size(drill size), number of gas ports, gas port spacing(or location)?

The biggest adjustment is the number of gas ports and it all depends on how long the rings need to last.

stock cars/street: as little as five
drag cars: sky's the limit :D

Don, it seems to me I see fewer people running gas port pistons, Are piston and ring packages getting a better ring seal, or is gas porting still important. Also when you say the sky is the limit. Is it just trial and error, to get the "perfect" number? It would seem to me you could create too much ring drag? Am I off on this? Thanks!

Ok, I was kidding about sky's the limit, but JE says they've had people try 20-30 before

If you're trying to make the most power, then gas ports are still the way to go. As for the perfect number, I'd call JE and get their opinion - they have more trial and error experience than anyone.
