dominator

Post by bsfc9 »

we recently ran a big inch, high compression motor with a single plane manifold on the dyno with a 1050 dominator. at about 2700rpm with minimal load the fuel metering in the primary boosters was like a shower head. is that normal? we have run dominators before, but i guess never thought to look into the carb when running. the throttle blades were only partially cracked. we saw this with two different carbs(one was a known "good").

I've never looked down a dominator at part throttle so I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me. My street/strip car was actually faster with a dominator, but I finally decided it wasn't worth it. The car was very inconsistent and wanted to quit in the shutdown area.

Yes, this is normal on the Dyno with a minimal load , engine rpm 2700, and part throttle ....the more Dyno load on the engine at 2700 RPM the more fuel will be coming out of the carb boosters/venturis

You might be able to "improve" the Idleing charateristics by using the following method ;

with a Dominator, you should idle off the front and rear throttles
(4 -Corner idle) adjust the throttle blades closed, then adjust same exact opening steps front and rear to set the idle RPM where you want .
this will keep you from relying so heavily on the primary front barrells
and might help out mixture distribution and even out EGT temps

as in above Pic Link , you can see Fuel readings on Front and Rear halves of the 4 Barrell Dominator ....and if you use the SF-901 Air Turbine on a few Dyno tests as well, you'll be able to read the Air/Fuel Ratios on bothe the Front & Rear halves of the carb
