Cylinder wall coatings

Post by STOCK 1090 »

Don, Great forum for the hardcore gearheads! Get in touch with Scooter at Comp or Harold at Superflow. They could make a link from the AETC.

Anyone out there see any reduction in friction from any of the cylinder wall coatings?

Hi Rich, thanks for joining the forum. I've used Nikasil before. The payoff seamed to be the wear resistance. Not sure if it's worth the cost and hassle. Maybe someone on the forum has used it more than I have.

Thanks for reminding me, I need to get someone from Comp on the show.

I now a few years ago engine builders were putting in composite sleeves
with the nikisel coating, Steve at LSM systems was doing a lot of that work I beleive it was about 800 dollars a sleeve plus machine work to install them.

I've never messed with cylinder coatings except for a couple motorcylcle cylinders. How thick are the coatings and what stones do you use to hone them with?

Thanks

Its only in tenths and diamond stones are required to hone the cylinders and the reson for the composite sleeves they are about half the weight of a std sleeve.
