Has anyone been able to verify MBE's flow numbers?

Post by JoePorting »

MBE has some really nice heads. But I was wondering if anyone was able to verify their flow numbers on an SF-600? They just seem to be about 30 CFM above what I think they should be.

I have no comment on MBE as I have never even heard of them before, but IMHO there are many places on the internet that advertise flow numbers that I can only achieve with their heads on my bench if I remove the spark plug...........

The variance on that link/story was only about 10 CFM which is within a general error rate. I don't think 10 CFM is a material difference. That is, I would use those numbers to decide between good or bad. I was asking about a larger 30 CFM difference.

Matt at MBE is a friend, so feel free to take this with a grain of salt, but I'm pretty sure they offer a money back guarantee on those heads if you don't get the same numbers on your own flowbench. Don't know how strict they are on making sure somebody else's flowbench is set up correctly, but I guess since Matt Hagan won the FC championship with their heads they are pretty confident in their stuff.

To the OP, do you have a head from them on your bench showing 30 cfm lower then they said they are....

Or are you saying that you can only get your max ported heads to 30 cfm less the same MBE head???

Big difference in the question, IMO

I have tested one of their P/S heads on my bench and they were right on the number.

likewise at first i had doubts about MBE claimed numbers ,
but same here , they were very close on my SF600 to what was claimed 8)

i took part in Bruce's PTS Flowbench Tech Forum's PAP and PAH flow tests
PAP = Pass Around Plates
PAH = Pass Around Heads
Bruce sent out 3 Orfice Calibration Plates + 2 different Cylinder Heads
to a whole bunch of Shops across USA where each one would Flow test + report results

the results were compared to Ford's Factory hi dollar Flowbench as a "Standard"
my SF600 Bench just about mirrored the Ford Bench

some were as much as 40 + higher CFM , some on both intake and exhaust sides :shock:
most were closer to Ford's numbers .
