307 chev piston with floating pin?
Turning up nothing - need to find a budget (preferably cast) 307 chev piston that'll take a floating pin (machined for circlips), any ideas who may do one?
Needs to be std bore size - 3.875"

I would be very surprised if any one does a cast piston to suit floating pins.
You can always stake the piston with a center punch once the pin is fitted.

No one makes a cast piston as you require. You could use pin buttons to locate the pins.
What rod length are you using?

Re: 307 chev piston with floating pin?
It's not actually going in a 307, it's a little project I'm helping out a young fella with - for the engine in question I can get floating pin 5.7" rods about $300 cheaper than I can get press fit ones (seems wierd I know).
Can't use a chev rod, can't use the stock rods for the engine (they're 5.625"), rod choice is limited.
If I have to do anything silly like narrowing chev rods to fit or machining circlip grooves in pistons it's gonna blow the limited budget, same thing if I have to use the more expensive press fit rods (I'd prefer floating pins for this engine anyway).
Not sure I'd trust teflon buttons, I've never used them, but I guess they may be an option?

Scat sells a 5.7 long cap screw type rod with press pin option.they use a 3/8" cap screw with doweled cap.
I use them for boats to replace stock rods. About$195/set Part#25700P

No good, need narrower rods, if I had to narrow a set of chev rods I may as well pay the extra for the off the shelf press fit rods can get.

Check with JE. I don't know about cast though.

sealed power speed pro is now crossing a lot of there pistons over to coated skirts and full float pins and discontinuing old ones call federal tech they may be abel to help you.

If you REALLY need to keep it cheap, get to work!
Just drill the rods at 4 o'clock or so and tap them for a 1/4 28 set screw, blunt the screws, grind a divot in the pin and loctite the screws in.
Total budget less than $5 assuming you have drills and taps, if you need them too, maybe $20
Then you can use the cheapest piston out there and save more money.
Good Luck!

Hmm, that got the gears turning in the head.
How about a set screw in the small end, but with a groove in the pin so it can still float?
Or a circlip on the actual pin either side of the rod?
Has that been done? - trying new things is all well & good, but I prefer to try new things on my own stuff before hand so if it goes bang no-one gets upset with me!

Wrist pin buttons?
EDIT: missed that you've already thought of that, sorry

Re: 307 chev piston with floating pin?
If this is totally on the no budget side a 1/8 roll pin not a split pin through the pin boss of the piston.
I did that years ago on some pistons that did not have the groove machined in one side, Lasted since 96!!!
I just freshened that engine 2 weeks ago and every thing was fine to go back together.

Re: 307 chev piston with floating pin?
^ top idea, that'll work, I'm gonna do that, I'll have to shorten the pins or scratch around & find some shorter ones - should have something laying around.
Win/win - I can use the cheaper rods & the press fit pistons & keep floating pins with less than an hours work.
