Valve seal install tool

Post by BOOT »

I see there are two tools a one peice and a two peice, 2nd is valve size specific. I read alot prefer the viton seal and some1 said because they are forgiving on alignment. So would that mean the one peice tool would do the job or just go wiht a two peice and be good? Like to hear what some of you guys are useing.

depending on the brands and sizes of seals you use will depend on how well the installers work.
I use metal clad viton seals and make my own installers. They are piloted so they are stem size specific but it gets them straight every time.
Ilooked for some comercially available installers but have not found any that look like they will work as well and even though there is many types and brands of seals the installers that are out there seem better suited for use with a full rubber type for lack of a better term where the viton metal clad seals seem to differ on the design between brands and require many different installers if they were available.
Some damage the seal lip spring and other seem to distort the body of the seal.

Unfortunately I think they are out of business or at least not imported anymore, but a Spanish company called Quelo has an awesome seal installer. It has 8 different pilots and 22 seal adapters and has not failed me yet. Maybe an internet search would find some answers.

Thx for the feedback guys, but lets try this approach.

What would you use on these seals http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-518-16/overview/

A) http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-5334/overview/
or
B) http://www.tooltechsystems.com/default.asp?page=H-11/32

C) your reccomened tool? with link plz

I see alot more are making B type, even comp cams has some, but the one listed is half the price of others. Also note I only plan on doing a set once in a blue moon.

edit: sbc heads, sportsman II too be specific

As was said, if you have access to a lathe make your own. 1/2 aluminum, drill just over stem size , counterbore for metal diam. of seal, face end,yor done. They work better than plastic.

I believe they still are in biz.
An other member was looking and one of their seat and guide machines and posted here a link to them.
May be worth a search but on that subject it would be faster to make up your own

Thx again for the suggestion, but I don't have access to any good equipment.

An LS Valve seal install tool works great for Comp 518-16 seals as long as you remove the garter spring first.

The tool I purchased is from ICT Billet Part #551913. Installs GM LS series valve stem seals for .500" & .530" (inner seal diameter).

I ran across this thread in search of a driver since I believe I trashed my first set using a poor fitting socket.

Could you possibly post a pic of one you've made?
