OK so we covered the worst engines.
If 3D printing ever becomes what the media are promising and you can print any engine that you can think of, what engine would you print that you can't buy today?
Then, what would you put it in? I guess you could print that too.

I'll start; I would make a 135 degree bank angle V8 2-stroke super charged (no crankcase pumping).
The 135 degrees bank angle allows for a smooth firing order.

Same idea except I might go with a pancake layout.
Don't try to race it anywhere. Virtually every racing org on the planet is wise to that idea.

I'd remake the Viper motor as a stretched new style hemi V10. 650 or so N/A HP. And there would always be the option of boost.

I know just about everyone on here wants a bajillion cubic inches and eleventy gazillion horsepower but I'd be happy with a really well built turbocharged 4 cylinder with top notch metalurgy and improved design so the thing could make 400-500hp and still last 100,000+ miles. It could even be SOHC with port injection and fixed valve timing. Something like a Ford 1.9L semi-hemi engine but with much better metallurgy and more attention paid to durability rather than cheap production.


I bet I'm the only SOB that would like to see that engine improved but it was a pretty straight forward and effective design- something to be said for simplicity.

A 426 Hemi with a tunnel ram...capable of 30+MPG and priced under $2000.00!
Being a FoMoCo guy....427SOHC with big induction still arouses me quite abit!

Sixty degree V12, cam in block, .904 roller lifters, 427 - 488 cu. in., five head bolts per cylinder, symmetrical port layout with up to date ports, and extra attention paid to the cooling system design.
Stuff it into an early Monte Carlo. That huge engine bay is just screaming for a V12.

Slide valve,.37" travel, 4 cycle, headless, 2 rods on common journal @ 120 deg separation. Triangle shaped motor would have 3 pairs of opposed cylinders, would definately be "pancake", and better suited for verticle shaft. Rev like F1, with no valve train crashing. This "is" dreaming out loud-right flyingwedge.

Basically an LS....SBC bottom end with Cleveland heads...

What is Cleveland about an LS head? The bolt pattern? Or SBC about the bottom end?

Haha, what isn't Cleveland about an LS head.....

I will give that to you about the SBC bottom end though, but the LS stuff that I've done all have had 2.000" and 2.100" rod journals.....hence the comment.

Blykins, I wasnt being sarcastic, just curious. I know the bolt pattern is the same, just didnt know what else. A LS is a wedge, a Cleveland is not, right?

Bolt pattern is the same, and if you compare LS7 heads to 4V Cleveland heads, lots of other things are very similar....port dimensions, port shape, valve diameters, etc. I think you could probably even bolt an LS intake up to a Cleveland...

A Cleveland head is a canted valve head. The closed chamber head is a wedge style.

To chip in and not be a total hijacker, I'd like to see some actual CG Ford FE blocks come to fruition. Pond has had them advertised on his website for awhile, but to my knowledge, none have been made. Some really big FE's would be pretty sweet.
