Buying a new crank balancer

Post by R.Brown »

I am in the market for a new crankshaft balancer, and figured this group is likely my best bet at a decent answer. Looking at the Sunnen, but no obligations have been made yet. Thanks in advance for the help,

I have used a Bal Tech since 1978 & I will be glad to tell you why I haven't bought a new balancer. Too much to discuss here.

I looked at the Sunnen balancer but the drill fixture they are using is a belt drive and the earlier one was not very sturdy for drilling the 1 inch holes. From there I looked at the Hines Eliminator and have used that for 3 years now and am very happy with it and have had no problems.

Befor I bought my Hines I used a Stewart Waner balancer but with no drill fixture it was a pain going from the balancer to the bridge port ( I think I wore out 3 pair of shoes a year balancing cranks that way) I still have it for a back up if needed.

I bought my Hines at the PRI show and the gave me a good deal.
