Street Mufflers
Need recommendation on street mufflers.
73 Camaro
back halved, full tub, full cage.
540, 750hp plus 150 shot at the track.
AFR 315 Heads, vic jr port matched, pro systems hp 1000
2 1/8 headers
turbo 400, 9 inch 4.11
moser spool and axles.
Will be driving on street, any recommendations for mufflers 3inch?
Don't want to run bullets on the street.
Thanks

Re: Street Mufflers
Rather than the traditional "get a big case muffler" wonder about a good aftermarket axle back like Mufflex? The long ones that fit in front of the gas tank. Been thinking on this for awhile
Anyone?
Anyone?

Re: Street Mufflers
Check out flowtech's site They have audio files of their mufflers. I purchased the afterburners, but the terminators sounded good too. I put the afterburners on my ole nova project and I really like their thumpiness compared to flowmasters.
Re: Street Mufflers
I'd want to run 3.5". Dynomax Ultraflow are some of the best out there... Same design as Magnaflow, but better built. The LONGER the muffler, the quieter it will be, with no loss in flow. There are various lengths available, at least in the smaller diameters. I don't assume you're running tail pipes?

Re: Street Mufflers
Thanks for the replies, mufflers will dump before back tire on each side.
Due to the backhalve not much room for mufflers, not to mention 2nd gen Camaros
have clearence issues.

Re: Street Mufflers
Borla xr1 sportsman. I went from bullets to the borlas with an x pipe and it was drastic difference. I even used the small 12" borlas and now you can talk easily in the car. They also flow as good as open pipes and will never go bad. I have them dumped at the axle. Mufflers are by the headers with the x pipe after the mufflers. Only way it would fit with the ladder bars on my 76 camaro.
Re: Street Mufflers
Checkout Hushpowers, have them on a couple cars, putting them on a 3rd in the next couple weeks.Tom
Re: Street Mufflers
I've always had good results with the Dynomax straight through their quieter than would be expected.73camaroz28 wrote:Need recommendation on street mufflers.

I really want to try one of these set-ups on something. Probably not the quietest but wicked cool in execution.

And for the record, twin 3" should support 750 hp with minimal or no loss if done correctly and if the muffler flows well enough.
Re: Street Mufflers
This car had 3.5 to the X pipe then reduced to 3" with 3" dynomax and tail pipes, ran the same et on motor and bottle as a 3.5" straight system with bullets and dumps.900HP wrote:900HP wrote:I really want to try one of these set-ups on something. He had removed the tail pipes being told it would go faster...It didn't!

Re: Street Mufflers
if you dont care about your uptight nosey neighbors like i dont, i had good performance from a compact rectangular muffler, spintech outlaws, breaths good and the crack in exhaust note will get you ready to impregnate your wife/girfriend

Re: Street Mufflers
With AFR Heads, I tried every header with no luck.
I had a gentleman here in San Diego custom build me some headers 2 1/8 x 3.5 collectors.
Was going to do the Lemon header thing but did not like the over the frame look.
Thinking about
Spintech sportmans mufflers
Dynomax turbo
Flowmaster 40 series
for street use

Re: Street Mufflers
Only use the Flowmaster's if you want to slow the car down a bunch. Dynomax ultra-flows work as well as an open tube and they actually quiet the car more than you would think. I have yet to try a Spintech, although the link I posted above uses them. In my mind they are similar to a Flowmaster and may hurt power but at least the "obstructions" are radiused so maybe they are ok. What I liked about the Dr.Gas/Spintech system I posted above is the oval tubing for ground clearance.

Re: Street Mufflers
The straight through kind will work well and I think that the closer to the outlet end of the pipe the better for muffling.
